Nord Stage 3 88 Black Keys Clicking on Release

Post by eraserhead »

Hello,

I have just received my Nord Stage 3 88 and it is fantastic, but I noticed that all the black keys have a slight clicking sound when released. The white keys sound fine.

Here is a Youtube video to show what I mean:

I just want to make sure this is how these keys usually sound. I assume this is the case since all the black keys have this sound but I certainly haven't noticed it to this extent on other keyboards I have played before.

Thanks very much for any help with this.

It looks to me like the back of the black keys might be hitting the case. It looks like it’s almost touching the panel. Here’s an example using my NS3. There’s a wider gap between the case and the end of the black keys. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Thanks very much for your response.

Well spotted. That makes sense if the keys are a bit further back.
The sound is very minimal so it's not a problem at all but just thought I would check.

Thanks again

Glad to help. BTW, you mentioned that you just got your NS3 and I was wondering if you could tell me the version and revision on the top panel and if you purchased it new or older stock/used? There’s also another separate version number on the bottom left corner (facing the rear panel). I just recently got my NS3 88 last month myself and was curious if there’s a later version/rev. The later revs (including mine) don’t have the ventilation slots and I was curious which rev or version Clavia started leaving them off. Thanks.

The top panel says RevB 5.2 and the rear panel says v0.3.1
I purchased it as a used item so not sure how old it really is unfortunately.
Mine does does not have any ventilation slots.

Hope this helps

Yes thanks. It’s identical to mine. I was just trying to determine when they did away with the slots. Enjoy your Stage 3!

I am really not happy with the key action... on the black keys try this... grab a black key between two fingers and wiggle it as far left and right as it will go, the keys that are bad will click and clunk and move further left and right than other black keys.... so when you are playing and your hands move in one direction to strike a key you are putting lateral force on the key as well as vertical (down) force on the key which will make these bad keys crunch and you will feel the friction. Try a bunch of black keys wiggling them left and right, and you will see some keys are nice and firm, others are loose and clunky/squeaky. ... I ordered the Nord Grand but i will really miss all the other goodies... I may just sell everything and get Keyscape with a controller keyboard .. I am really not happy that a $6000 Cdn keyboard has such lousy key action. I rented an RD-2000, hate the sounds but the action is at least really tight not sloppy, and this is a rental kyb that gets beaten on regularly. The Stage 3 action really doesn't seem to hold up well.
