How many of you connect a weighted-key controller...
How many of you connect a weighted-key controller to your Electros, to get the best Grand/Upright experience? It's tough to enjoy playing the fantastic Piano Library with those semi-weighted keys.
Have any of you tried connecting a decent digital piano to your Electro, to get the best experience? I have a Casio PX160... it feels GREAT and is my favorite digital piano I have ever owned. I used to have a Nord Stage 3 76HP that I sold for bills (summer 2019). I'm getting Nord-crazy again but the finances don't allow for a weighted-key Nord. So I was thinking of just picking up the Electro 6D 61, and connecting either my Casio PX160 to it, and/or my Studiologic SL73 (which from my research has the same exact keybed feel as the Stage 2 EX 76HP, and the 3 76HP.
I briefly owned an Electro 5D 61 and I honestly LOVED it... how light it was, how small. You get all the great sounds, because the sounds are shared among nearly all the models.
Another thing I was considering was the Nord Grand... it's $1400 more than the Electro 6D 61, though... having the 2GB of space is really nice... and the Kawai keybed... but I feel that a smarter, cheaper investment is just an Electro 6. Bonus-- the organ section, the sample synth and playing those sounds with the semi-weighted keys, etc. Portability.
I honestly don't mind playing semi-weighted keys with piano stuff.. I love my Novation SL MK3 61... I play it basically every day. But I really miss that Nord Piano Library, haha.
Thanks, all!

Re: How many of you connect a weighted-key controller...
Hi,
How many of us? I don‘t know. But never mind, I‘d say if you are happy with the feel of your Casio then the addition of a nord electro 6D 61 would be perfect. It is as you say: you‘ll then have the great piano sounds played by your favourite keybed plus a perfect organ. And at least one easy-to-carry keyboard. I would definitely do so.
Nord Grand alternative won‘t give you neither the organ nor the transportability.
Follow your gut. Cheers from Germany

I have a Stage 2 HA88... and still controlling it from my Kawai in the living room it's a whole different thing: the Kawai action is so much better than the FATAR TP/40, and I get some of the functionalities of the triple pedal too!

Re: How many of you connect a weighted-key controller...
I have a Yamaha P-155 which is often connected to my 5D.
It really makes piano playing the 5D sounds a lot more fun.
I really like the Yamaha's own piano sounds though so mostly that's my go-to, but when I want/need some other nuance than the Yamaha's 2 piano sounds it's wonderful to have the possibility to play Nord pianos on weighted keys.
Live I make do with just the 5D though.
Play mostly organ with my keys band, so not worth lugging an extra 20 kg for the feel.

Re: How many of you connect a weighted-key controller...
I use my older Yamaha stage piano, too. But use a MIDI Solutions Velocity Converter inbetween in order to get a good relation between action and sound. Not with an Electro, but that should do it more or less the same way. Interesting that my feeling with the action is different for AP and EP sounds. So I'm going for a compromise.

I do. Kawai VPC1. Love it.
The VPC1 always stays at home, though.

Re: How many of you connect a weighted-key controller...
I cheat by using a NP4 as a weighted controller for a NS3C. Probably not the right answer for you. I do observe that the #1 complaint people have is that the keybed response curve isn't right for them in one direction or another.

Thanks for the replies! Yeah, it doesn't seem like the worst idea, really, haha. God, if Nord could just make a DESKTOP VERSION of the Electro or anything else.... for like $1000 less than each board... I know the Electro 2 rackmount existed, but... nothing since the Piano Library and Sample Library.

Re: How many of you connect a weighted-key controller...
Well... a Rack/Desktop version of Electro would be awesome (and cheaper, of course), but I enjoy the keybed of my Electro 6D 73 a lot! especially for Pianos. But that's me...
Cheers

Re: How many of you connect a weighted-key controller...
Yeah, I do that. At home I have a cheap but decent Casio stage piano. My NE 5D is on top. I like to have the heavier keys for a more piano feel. And at the same time I have the organ/synth keys for the rest. On sundays in church I just used the NE 5D. But there I am not the piano player. I do all the other fun stuff I love how it fits in the bag and I have all the great sounds with me.
