Recording on multiple midi channels?
Hi,
I have a 4 track Roland midi sequencer.
Is it possible to record different (sample) sounds on different midi channels?
Long time ago i had a Roland keyboard and could make songs with multiple sounds.(Drums Bass piano etc)
Or will Nord remain limited to the use of one synth sample?
Thanks
Ivar

Hi,
Unforunately not, MIDI records only perfomance, not sound.

Electro can only play one synth/sample sound at a time, period. It doesn't matter whether you're playing it from its own keys, or over MIDI from a sequencer or another set of keys.Ivar77 wrote:Long time ago i had a Roland keyboard and could make songs with multiple sounds.(Drums Bass piano etc)

There are plenty of fully multi-timbral boards, where you can trigger up to 16 sounds at a time, whether from their keyboards, built-in sequencers/MIDI players, external MIDI sources, or some combination. But Nord does not make such boards.

Re: Recording on multiple midi channels?
Thanks both of you. I always had a Roland Fantom which had those features, so I was used to it, and didn't think the Nord wouldn't have it.
So thats a little dissapointing. But the sampling possibilities from the Nord is why I bought it. The ideal Keyboard isn't always reachable!
Now i understand why the stage has two panels A and B.

Even there, you can "only" have up to 6 total engines working simultaneously, not more. Way enough for many people (me included), but still far from some whopping 16 simultaneous engines as in other keyboard brands as anotherscott was mentioning. So if you need that kind of "workstation-like" flexibility, even the Stage won't give you that. It does give you many other great things though!Ivar77 wrote:Now i understand why the stage has two panels A and B.

Thanks Hlaalu,
Three engines at the same time, or six would be enough... But if it was possible to have to sounds from the sample synth playing together in a split. For example Strings and Clarinet, or flute and harp.
I am glad in the piano engine Nord put a vibraphone and an Marimba. So something more combinations are possible. Hopefully they will put more instruments in the piano section.

Well you can do that by using the Synth from the A Panel (say strings) and the Synth from the B Panel (say clarinet). Then you can either split the board and assign them to different zones or play them together in layer, or a combination of both. In this way though the Synth capabilities will be all used up, so you won't be able to play other samples nor to build sounds with the oscillators -- within that Program.Ivar77 wrote:Thanks Hlaalu,

I know I know.
But it was just to give you the whole spectrum of possibilities. In fact that shows that even the flagship instrument is "limited" in this respect when compared to other brands.
