Tones with pedal

Post by Tim Stoter »

I'm playing on a Nord Stage 2.

Since 5 minutes, there is something not good in my piano. When I play with pedal and I lift the pedal up, normally the tones i played under my pedal stop sounding. But now, they keep sounding for about 3 seconds. I've been checking it with all the knowledge I have, but I can not find the problem. Anyone here who can help me?

Thanks!

Broken pedal or wrong polarity set in System menu?

What about the synth release? But unlikely if you checked different programs.

Hello,
does it do it with all sounds?
have you tried other programs?
did you change the release parameter on a sample?
I imagine you have watched it all.
you should try another pedal to rule out a problem on the nord stage.
good luck

Hi Tim,

I also would at first try another pedal. Secondly I would check the menu settings. If Sustain Pedal Type is set to Auto, I would not in any case trust its reliabilty and would rather set it to the actual type of your pedal, be it Open or Close.

And this has reminded me of a similar issue I once had in the rehearsal room. At the end it was a piece of the carpet which always prevented the pedal from releasing itself.

Good luck - and would be nice if you kept us informed. Stay healthy everybody.

Thanks!!

It's the same problem, with all programs. Synth, piano, all presets...

I don't have another pedal at home, so I can't try it right now.

Where can I find the 'menu settings'?

Turn the Nord of and then on again, and make sure not to press the pedal until it is fully booted.

If the pedal setting is „automatic“ (which it is by default), then the Nord will regard whatever is set when you switch it on as „pedal not pressed“.

So if you accidentally press the pedal while switching on the Machine, it will think the pedal is released, and the pedal will work inversely (released = hold, pressed = short).

This is fairly common and quite confusing if you’ve never encountered it.

See "System Menu" (also on your Nord Stage 2 manual)

Thanks!

I tried to fix it in the system menu, but it didn't really work. Think I should buy a new pedal. Strange, because I never had problems and suddenly it didn't work anymore.

Thanks for your advice everyone!

Well, everything that breaks worked fine up until the moment it’s broken. :D
