Ventilator or Strymon Lex

Post by Hammondman »

Hello,
Did find a couple of posts on leslie sims. There is no place to demo these units and although the leslie is good on the electro 3, if gets a slightly thin sound on the higher range. Do not want to drag a leslie around, tried eq'ing but still not
completely satisfied, any more thoughts on these 2 sims? Does anyone own or tried these, and will they make a big difference from the Nord sim?

Thanks

I have not tried the Lex.
The Vent has been well discussed on other forums and by most users is considered to be the next closest thing to a Leslie.
Compared to the Nord E3 it has a better close mike setting which seems to be preferred by many.
It is definitely a step up from the Nord sim which is very good.
There is also more flexibility.
It doesn't have a Marshall like grind because it's designed to replicate a Leslie.
From my usage and what I have read the product seems to be accepted almost universally.
I ordered mine directly but their should be vendors in the U.S.

From the videos I have seen the Strymon seems to have more grind
& possibly more treble content.
A little bit more RocknRoll perhaps.
Good luck.

I'm rather interested in the Ventilator too, and am wondering if it would really make a difference to my Electro 3.

There don't appear to be too many clips of Nord owners using the Ventilator on YouTube, which suggests that perhaps the step-up in authenticity isn't really worth it. I'd love to be able to A-B the thing myself, but dealer availability is a little scarce over here.

Any Electro 3 + Ventilator (or other Leslie sim units) wishing to do some A-B comparison clips, please?

Cheers,
James

Thanks morten!

That's a nice clip, but I would still appreciate hearing other A-B comparisons.
Also, I believe the C2 sound/Leslie sim is a little better than the Electro3's...

Cheers,
James

There is my post :
lily0971 wrote:I compared NE3 internal Leslie sim with Neo Ventilator.
For each audio sample, you'll hear first NE3 with its internal Leslie then Ventilator (NE3 Leslie sim off).
Ventilator setups : Knobs at 12', except drive at 0 and distance to the max.

Drawbars 888840000
Drawbars 888840000
Drawbars 888800008
Drawbars 888000000- Drive at 3'
Drawbars 888000000- Drive at 3'
Drawbars 868800004

You can make you own opinion ...
The question is : if you own a NE3, is it worth spending $500 for Neo Ventilator ?
Personally I dislike Ventilator's overdrive, it seems artificial and digital.
Yes, there are small differences between those 2 simulations, but NE3 can get closer thanks to a good EQ.
Eventually when you are on stage could you hear a difference between them when there are guitars and drums ??

Great, thanks Fabe!

I agree...is it really worth shelling-out for an extra box of tricks when at a gig, 99% of the folks in the audience will be unable to hear the difference.
