Hello,
im trying to conect my Nord Electro 4D to my pc so i can use it as a midi keyboard. I connected it using a midi - usb cable (one like thishttps://www.amazon.de/TNP-Interface-Con ... B077VHNZ2R)
but the computer doesnt recieve any signals. is there something i need to change in the Setting.
Ty for help and greeting from germany.
(and sry for my bad english)
If you've read the manual, you know that your Electro would only send MIDI data via either MIDI or USB connection (not both at a time). You have to set this in the MIDI settings. Have a look into chapter 6 in the German manual.

Sorry, wrong answer to your question. I didn't look into the adapter you bought.
Why not try it with an ordinary USB connection while setting MIDI to USB in/out? The only thing you will need is the appropriate NORD (!) USB driver for Win10 - don't use a Windows standard driver for that. Can be downloaded on the Nord website. A Mac won't need a separate driver as far as I know.
I just want to piggy back off of this. I have usb cable and midi cable. Will I experience a lot more latency if I use the midi cable via midi out to go into audio interface and then into computer compared to straight usb-out from keyboard into computer? The reason I am asking is, I either need to buy a midi cable or a usb splitter because I run out of inputs on my computer if I have it connect to the charger.
So my options are:
MIDI Out > Audio Interface > Computer
So all of my inputs would run through the audio interface. Vocals, Guitar, MIDI signal
USB Out > Computer
(This option would require a device to give my computer more USB inputs)
Keyboard would run directly into computer. Vocals and Guitar would run through Audio Interface
There shouldn't be any difference in latency between MIDI over USB or MIDI through an interface.
As for ideal, there isn't a single answer to that question. There are so many possible interfaces and software options.
for the sake of this discussion lets narrow this down a bit
1. what audio interface are you using and does it support MIDI?
2. what software are you trying to control on the computer (what is the NORD being a controller for)?

And next to that. Set the desired port (USB = U or DIN = P) in the midi settings menu.

SSL 2+ which has old school MIDI
Controlling either logic or MainStage
Everything works great when using USB to computer. Thinking about buying a MIDI cable to run Nord to interface, then to computer.
