User Downloads for Nord Grand

Post by lawman »

On the nordusersounds website, can I only download into my Nord Grand the samples that are specifically designated as "Samples"? I tried some downloads that were designated as "Stage" models and in each case I got a message that the file "is not supported by this instrument." Can the Nord Sound Manager translate these files into samples that are accessible for NG?

Correct. The NS3 files are programs specific for the Nord Stage, using synth and whatnot, that the Grand does not have. They are specific to NS3 and will always be that way.

Well, "samples" normally in the Nord world refer specifically to samples you load into the synth/sample-player section of your instrument. These come now in Nord Sample Lib 3.0 format, which you NG supports. In addition to the actual sample, they also hold default settings for the envelope and filter and dynamics etc. The older samples in Nord Sample Lib 2.0 format cannot be loaded directly to the latest generation instruments, but needs to be converted first; in most cases, however, Nord offer the same samples in both formats even though never samples may only come in Nord Sample Lib 3.0 format. These files are either typed as .nsmp3 (3.0 format) or .nsmp (2.0 or previous formats).

On top of this, you have the Nord Piano Library, which your NG will happily load all of. These are all typed as .npno files.

And then there are program settings files, which are specific to one Nord instrument only. These may be called .ns3p (for NS3), .nw2p (NW2), .ne6p (NE6), etc. There may also be "bundle" files that hold a combination of the program and the samples.

Did you try to load a .nsmp file instead of .nsmp3 file to your NG? Specifically, which "Stage" samples did you try to load and from where -- this may help to clarify if you tried to load .nsmp files or possible some .ns3p files (in the later case, these cannot be converted to your NG, as pointed out by @ameinild).

Looks like the answer was obvious all along. I was trying to load .ns3f files, which my NG couldn't accommodate. When I loaded .nsmp files (after conversion by the Sound Manager) I had no problem. I had hoped that the ".ns3f" designation might simply indicate the source of the patch, and not also the instrument required to accept the download. Finally, I am aware of the different Sound Libraries and Program Settings, but I appreciate your pointing them out anyway. You had no reason to know I knew.
