8 Keys Not Sounding on NS3

Post by alankerich »

Hi there!

New to the forum--I searched the web for help with this question, but haven't found anything yet. I'm *hoping* it's nothing that's been broken, and is simply an ignorant user conundrum :D

My 2-year-old son started hitting some buttons (YAY :wtf: ) while I was playing this morning, and all of a sudden, 8 adjacent keys stopped sounding. It goes from C#4 to G#4, and affects all of my sounds in the Piano and Synth sections, but my organs are still playing on all keys just fine. Powering on/off doesn't help, and I've thought that maybe I'd activated some weird split, but the split function is currently off.

I was going to try to do a factory restore, but I'm hoping to save what I have, as I've spent hours creating some custom sounds and, ever-so-stupidly, never created a backup

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

...and now it's randomly started working again without me doing anything...a little unsettling. I'm worried it's an issue with the board, and it might happen again when I'm playing out...?

Just guessing, but if the keyboard is scanned in groups and one wire to this group is not properly connected to the lower key switch, you would likely get exactly this behavior.

So maybe one of the internal connectors had worked itself a little loose? Or you son was somehow causing liquid of some kind (saliva) to work it's way into the board, and when it dried out it came back to normal?

Does that happen in all programs?

It does—all programs in the piano/EP and synth sections. Organs were playing just fine.

baekgaard is correct -- symptoms of eight consecutive notes or notes in intervals of eight semi-tones, will relate to a blown line in a ribbon cable (almost completely unheard of on Nords) or a wonky key scanning IC which is assigned the task of receiving signals from those ribbon cables

very weird that this would happen from a fist-bump from anyone at all, let alone a 2-year-old

no worries about data backup -- the areas involved here have nothing to do with program memory
