Hi there,
Wondering if anyone can recommend what current Nord model is closest to the old Wave?
Looking to upgrade a couple of old Waves and we rely heavily on our own user-generated samples. Would love to be able to just transfer these samples and patches to a newer model, rather than re-sample etc.
Does anyone know if this is possible/how easy it is? Anyone have any experience of transferring sounds from a Wave to another keyboard?
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!
Tom

Re: Nord Wave Replacement
Your samples in .nsmp format can be transferred to any sample-capable Nord keyboard:
- Stage models from the 2 onwards
- Electros from the 3 onwards
- Pianos from the 2 onwards.
They will play just fine, but you get VERY limited sample manipulation (volume and filter velocity) on the Electros and Pianos. Moreover, you won't have any chance of modulating them in real time with the pitch bend and modulation wheel.
To get these features you need a Stage model, which integrates the samples in a full synth section. By the way, the Stage 2/2EX synth is essentially a Nord Wave with a reduced interface, so you'll be very familiar with its features.
In several ways it's much more limited (fewer knobs and buttons, "hidden" oscillators configurations instead of two independent osc, single LFO, less modulation options, no ADSR envelopes etc), but there are also several respects in which it's actually better: extended keyboard range, split and layer capability, MUCH better effects, and hey... even an arpeggiator!
To sum it up: the only real replacement for a Nord Wave is another Nord Wave, it's still a very unique instrument even after all these years.
And if you're more of a synth player/sound designer and rely on heavy manipulation of your samples, I'm afraid there's no real solution for you.
But if you mostly need to be able to play back your custom samples as they are, with only a little real-time tweaking, the Stage will do just fine.
If you need absolutely NO tweaking and only pure sample playback, an old Electro will be perfect, and still give you a much better effect section than the Wave.

Re: Nord Wave Replacement
I agree completely with Spider on this.
The Nord Wave is a rather unique instrument, kind of a blend between a nord lead and sampler from the Stage series, so your best option would be a stage 2 / 2EX / 3 to support your needs. I would say that if you're looking for new and updated, go for the stage 3. I rely heavily on the Stage 3's sample engine and swear by it. Good luck on your search / migration EmmaBlowGun
