Using Nord Electro MIDI out (as controller)

Post by gwilymjones007 »

Hi all,

I am trying to use my Nord Electro 2 as a controller for my Roland Ju-06 via MIDI (I understand the Electro isn’t suited to this but it’s not a long term solution). I’ve purchased a MIDI cable and I have it going from the MIDI out of the Nord to the MIDI in of the Roland, but so far I’m not getting any notes out of the Roland by playing the Nord keys. Do I need to tell the Nord that I want it to send information out through MIDI? I assumed plugging the cable in to MIDI out would have done this but I may be wrong...?

Many thanks in advance!

You need to check NE2 MIDI settings, particularly the MIDI channel (see NE2 manual page 34 and also 42 "using with a sequencer", which is the same as using with an external expander/synth https://www.nordkeyboards.com/sites/def ... on%20A.pdf), try with 1 then if still not working you may also need to set the JU-06 to listen to that channel on its MIDI IN port (check about this on its manual)

Most of the sequencer info does not apply. Nord MIDI OUT to Roland NORD IN should do it, assuming the channels are set to match.

Did you connect the Roland's audio output to your playback system? Sorry if this sounds too obvious, but I've seen posts where people don't know that audio doesn't travel over MIDI.
