Flanger cuts frequency

Post by renix »

Hi everyone, on my NS2 (but I believe on all the Nord) the efx Flanger, of any of the two, seems to cut so many frequencies. I use it with the CP80 piano and I noticed that the two phases cut a lot the frequencies of the sound that loses a lot of "body" and becomes very "thin" to be almost unusable. Is it normal or is it a "bug" or something that can be improved to report to Clavia?

I believe the effect you hear is typical of flangers with the phase cancellation that will take out the bottom end most noticeably. The EQ might be able to beef it up a little. The Stage 3 flanger sounds about the same - I only use it on Clavinet but it is also effective in emulating a fast rotating speaker with distorted guitar - Stevie Ray Vaughn style. Take care.

Yeah, that's how a flanger sounds :-)

Have a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flanging and related hereto https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comb_filter for an explanation -- but as @WannitBBBad says, the bottom end is strongly impacted by the flanger effect.
