Nord Piano 4 vs Stage 3 action

Post by darinwilson »

Hi all! Please forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere, but I searched around and couldn't quite find what I was looking for.

I'm trying to find out if the Piano 4 has a different keybed than the Stage 3 88. The Piano says it has a "Triple Sensor keybed with grand weighted action" whereas the Stage has "88-key Weighted" - I can't tell if these are the same or not.

For context: I was able to try out the Stage 3 in a shop, and the action felt a little too light for my taste. They didn't have a Piano there, so I wasn't able to compare. If anyone here has had a chance to play both, or has more info on the specs of the keybeds, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!

The NP4 is and feels a little heavier than the NS3. It is not the same keybed.

Having played both, the NP4 is the more natural action for those of us who are primarily AP players. I love mine. That being said, I could get through a gig just fine with the Nord Stage 3 88 action and I wouldn't complain at all.

We're talking about small differences here. One thing that gives me a bit of a head fake is the aftertouch strip in the Stage 3 88. The bounce is different. Totally manageable, really, just something to get used to.

UPDATE: I ordered the Nord Piano 4, and indeed the action is quite different from the Stage 3, much more like an acoustic piano (as @cphollis mentioned). I absolutely love it. It's quickly becoming my all-time fave!
