Hi. I've been using mi clavinova as a midi controller to make my Finale works. I have a hosatech midi-Usb cable.
However, today I tried to use my Nord electro 4 HP as a controller and the midi signal isn't working. When I connect my cable to the clavinova, everytime I play a note, a blue light under a MIDI sign turns on. But whenever I play a note in my nord, the light stays off. When I open my MIDI Mac configuration, the usb midi shows but it doesn't receive any information.
This is my actual configuration:
1. Local control: ON
2. Midi interface: USB MIDI
3. Midi channel: 1
4. Lower channel: 1
5. CC mode: SEND
6. Prog CH Mode: SEND
7. Midi Split Mode: OFF
8. -
9.-
10.-
any ideas?
Thanks

Re: MIDI- USB CABLE doesn't work
How are you connecting the USB MIDI cable to your Nord and the Clavinova? That cable needs a computer to host the MIDI data - it does not pass the IN to the Out by itself.
If you are using the computer, though, you would plug the RED end of the Hosa cable (marked IN) to the Electro's DIN "OUT" and the BLACK end of the Hosa cable (marked OUT) to the Clavinova's IN.
Then set your Electro's midi interface to DIN not USB, turn Local Control OFF (so it only sends MIDI and does not play its own internal sounds). Then make your DAW route the midi from the Hosa IN to the Hosa Out. This is the part that sends the MIDI to the clavinova. If any one of these steps are not correct, nothing will work.
But if you want to use the Electro USB MIDI to your computer, you would do things differently:
1. Plug the Electro into your computer using a normal USB cable.
2. Plug the hosa interface in to your computer on another USB port.
3. Plug the RED hosa plug into the midi OUT on the Clavinova. Plug the BLACK hosa plug into the midi IN on the Clavinova.
4. Leave the settings on your electro as they are (but you can turn local control off to silence the internal sounds if you want).
5. As above, your DAW needs to route the MIDI from the Electro to the Clavinova. I can't tell you how to do this part.
Either of these situations require your DAW to be the router, taking MIDI from one input port and channel (either the Hosa or the Electro directly, on channel 1 as you have set the Electro) and spitting it out another port and channel (to the Clavinova, on whatever channel it is set to). It will not work without your DAW set up to do this properly.
If you just want to play the clavinova directly from the Electro you can just plug a standard MIDI cable from the Electro OUT to the Clavinova IN, make sure they are both on the same channel, and make sure the Electro is set to DIN MIDI. You should be good then.

Re: MIDI- USB CABLE doesn't work
Hi,
"2. Midi interface: USB MIDI" - I also think that this setting on the Electro is the problem, if you want to connect your Electro to your computer with your USB-MIDI interface, you want to select 'P - DIN MIDI ports' - and as 23skidoo says, you can also use a regular USB cable to connect the Electro to your computer and have MIDI over USB, if so, select 'U' on the Electro..
