Namm 2019 - no new sound generating device

Post by Eumel »

Dear guys at Nord,

Come on, that would be really disappointing if this should be all for Namm 2019, particularly with regard to that the speakers have not been developed by yourselves.

Please focus on your cores business - sound generating machines and not speakers.

I‘m aware that the market for the leads is way smaller than the market for the stages or electros, but it is really time for some new synth.

Sincerely,

Eumel

Sorry, but you sound like a terribly spoiled kid. Is there really something to wish for so badly that warrants such a sour offence of Nord? I mean, I don't feel sorry for Nord at all, they are a company. However, it is a company that offered me great joy in the form of two incredibly playable instruments, one of which I've have been playing for 10 years now. Do we really want Nord to behave like the electronics brand with the fruit logo?

Hi Skipgilles,

sour offence? Come on. I also really do appreciate what Nord did so far and I'm convinced that my Nord keyboards are the best I ever had. Anyway, IMHO it is also the purpose (beside many others) of a brand related forum to give room for customers, to express their needs. This makes even more sense, knowing that this forum is read by Nord themselves.

Believe me, I don't want to offend anybody - and after reading over my previous post again - I don't find anything offending there - maybe a little bit greedy.

Cheers

Eumel (still hoping for a new lead soon this year)

YOU HAVE SPOKEN AGAINST NORD. YOU ARE NOT OF THE BODY. WOE, WOE TO YOU WHO PROFANE THIS PROFOUND AND SACRED COMPANY WITH YOUR MEWLINGS FOR BETTER SERVICE, MORE INTERESTING PRODUCTS, OR MORE USEABLE UPDATES THAN WHAT NORD DECIDES TO GRANT YOU.

>Believe me, I don't want to offend anybody<

Cripes, stick to your guns, man. There are posters on this board who act like Nord is their Mom. Clavia screws up and makes bad moves just like every other company and needs to be called on it by the people who know them best - their customers. Don't let the Nordies bully you - it's their fallback tactic every time.

Gambold, who sold his Nord 4 after the update debacle this December, and bought a Vox Continental. It's just as fun.

I agree, but let's stay optimistic. NAMM hasn't come yet and Musikmesse isn't that far as well.

And also it is good to know Gambold is back, I've been missing your positive input. Welcome back :welcome:

Hi Gambold,

ok, I'm no native speaker of course, but I think I got your message and like this sense of humor

Oh, Gambold, you sold your Nord but just can’t quit us. I guess there’s no Vox Continental users group?

I wouldn’t over-read the lack of a new synth or the speaker release. Yes, the speakers are a strange move towards the consumer market for a company I would think whose customer base is overwhelmingly pro and semi-pro. I’m sure the r&d required to release the red speakers was minimal, (picking the shade of red to paint them and maybe some tinkering of the response curve?) which suggests the r&d guys and gals at Nord have their hands full with other stuff.

So, even if red speakers are of zero use to my applications, if they generate profit to the company to pay the people who are continually working to make the Stages and Electros better and maybe even are working on that new Lead, it’s no skin off my nose. Clearly someone at Nord who presumably knows more about the overall market than I do thinks they will.

I certainly don’t take these business moves as a personal attack on me. (Not saying you did, Eumel, either). Just saying not every move a company makes that isn’t exactly would you as an individual user would wish is a “debacle.”

Honestly, I can understand wanting to see new gear.

But I'm of the opinion that their team, between having really pushed the Stage 3 with its filters and squashing various bugs, and the chore of adding .npno v6 support to older machines, I really prefer to have their extremely limited development resources NOT stretched to prepping yet another machine for release just yet.

I think its an interesting move for Nord to make these Speakers specifically for their products, there must a be a call in the market or user feedback requesting this sort of thing.

I suspect there are many Nord Piano users who use the Keyboard at home but don't gig with it so perhaps don't want a bulky or large Monitor/PA system when all they are doing is simply playing for fun in the comfort of their homes this product(dependant on price point)will be a great addition to any Nord piano and the fact they directly mount already onto the unit means there is always an optimal listening position for the player to get the best out of their investment.

You see so many threads about whats the best PA/Speaker combination for my Nord/Keyboard product that this really helps solve a issue that most deem as a personal taste on what sounds best to them perhaps by giving the user a company endorsed product designed specifically for the product itself, helps remove that blurred line for most people who have no desire to spend thousands on a PA to obtain a pro sound..

While I am no insider, it appears that Clovia hopes to expand into specialty piano stores, those that sell serious grands, and non-portable DPs. This has taken root in my own town over the past year.

They’ve been at a marketing disadvantage in that space, because those customers are intimidated or turned off by industrial-design external amplification. These new speakers seem to aim to narrow that gap.
