Nord electro 5D not sending midi signal via midi usb cabel
hello, I'm new to midi so any advise will help.
I've bought a midi to USB cable to connect my Nord electro 5D (SW 73) keyboard to my computer.
my USB to midi cable has 3 LED's that indicate whether it is working or not. to my surprise the keyboard doesn't send any signal via the cable according to the led's.
I've looked online to find any information on how to connect it to my computer but neither on YouTube nor on this forum have I found any information that will help me.
have I got a setting wrong or am I the only one experiencing this.
feel free to ask any information you are missing. I realy want this to work.
In any case,
thanks for helping me.

Re: Nord electro 5D not sending midi signal via midi usb cab
Are you sure you’ve connected the MIDI IN plug to the MIDI OUT socket of the Electro?
The most common error (oh, have I been there!) is to connect „like“ with „like“.

I have connected the midi in plug to the midi in of the keyboard and thus connected the midi out to the midi out of the keyboardanalogika wrote:Are you sure you’ve connected the MIDI IN plug to the MIDI OUT socket of the Electro?

That is wrong. You need to plug the MIDI OUT of your controller to the MIDI IN of your slave instrument.

I am not connecting my keyboard to another instrument, I'm connecting it to my computer.Mr_-G- wrote:That is wrong. You need to plug the MIDI OUT of your controller to the MIDI IN of your slave instrument.
I will try it anyway though.
edit: This actualy worked. thanks. I think it is very confusing use it like that. some might think that the in pug needs to be pluged in to the in of the keyboard and the out to the out. but it does not...

The controller keyboard doesn't receive anything, it only sends information (eg The middle C key was pressed with X velocity etc) => MIDI out

If you need to connect the NE5 to the computer only, then why don'you connect it directly via standard USB, as shown in its manual too? NE5 has MIDI over USB...Ev31cktech wrote:I am not connecting my keyboard to another instrument, I'm connecting it to my computer.Mr_-G- wrote:That is wrong. Re: Nord electro 5D not sending midi signal via midi usb cab
Great. It actually does not matter if it is a computer or a different instrument, with MIDI (same as audio signals) you connect Out to In and viceversa, because they are directional connections.Ev31cktech wrote:This actualy worked. thanks. Think that you are sending a message out, that has to go to In port of the slave device.
