The Nord Piano Library - unsolicited advice for a makeover
The Nord Piano Library - unsolicited advice for a makeover
Why not, it's a Nord forum, so here goes:
1) Grands - Retire the old Concert Grand series. Add XL versions of the Studio and Lady D. Get a Bechstein in there, Queen is about to get hot again.
2) Uprights - There are now 12 of these, with names like Baby, Bambino, and Rain - phase out about half of them and let those samples become collector items on the chat boards.
3) Electrics - the amped versions are a bust. Hire outside the company and find someone who can craft a definitive Rhodes sample.
4) Electric grands, digital pianos, layers - for nostalgists and studio wags. Codify these into one section and call it Take On Me.
4) Clavinet - might be time for a new, bigger sample. This is a lonely section.
5) Harpsichord, Chris Maene - for Mozart night only. Wear your socks outside of your pants.

Gambold agreed!
Some of the best samples in the library dont have XL option due to age.. would be nice for some new grand sample(s) though
Too many uprights. nice novelty, but seldom used in a practical sense.
Rhodes mediocre at best, the Nerfetti is about the best of the bunch
I actually like the layer pianos.. Very rich and deep sound. Selective use though
Dont really use the other sections so not in a position to comment.
Either way something new in there is certainly long overdue. The library idea is not a new concept now with others (eg Dexibell) jumping on the bandwagon so the better content within is going to be key.

I think Yamaha are due some updates themselves. They have been throwing around their ancient CF samples for years, the S6 and CFX being slightly newer samples in the ranges per the CP4 but not recent by any stretch.lvercaut wrote:Also, the day when the CP4 successor is available and there are still no new piano and rhodes samples...….. i 'll do the switch to Yamaha, but i hope it aint gonna happen, i love Nords.

I can get behind the grands, electrics and clav, but the rest is just window dressing.

Totally agree with Gambold (new), back again with humour and verve :
- Gds : yes
- Uprights : downrights
- Elecs : on the rhodes again and again, reactualize old samples.
- Digitals etc : take on me 200%
- Clav : 300%
-Harpsichord : Saturday night fever 400%
Thnks Gambold

There is no need to retire anything. To reserve a bit of space on the download server and on the website costs nearly nothing.
Keep them all, and bring on new samples.
And, by the way, you've got at least one fan of the Chris Maene collection, these historical pianos are wonderful.

I think it's important for a company to phase out dated and relatively unused material - at least dump them in an archive section. Promoting the older and in many cases weaker samples for download suggests that the company isn't bothering to update them. Which in Clavia's case is too often the truth.
