Song Mode - Extern Section Included?

Post by Moonglow »

From a search of this forum, in Song mode, I understand that “only references to patches/programs are stored" and "the only things that can be stored into Song locations are sounds that have already been saved themselves." My question is if one of the “references” can be a sound coming from a module via the Extern section? For example, could one of the song locations be a patch in my Triton-Rack? Is this possible, or does Song mode only work for internal sounds? If this can be done, would patch remain still work and not abruptly cut off the “Extern patch” when switching to a new song location? Hope this makes sense, and sorry if this topic has been previously discussed. Thanks!

Programs can include internal sounds, external sounds, or both. Song Mode stores references to Programs, regardless of their content. I don't see any reason a Program (and therefore any "pointer" to such Program) could not consist of nothing but a Triton sound. However, the patch remain is an interesting question. Assuming that the rack unit itself does not support patch remain, I don't see how the Nord could add it. But if you were switching not from one external (Triton) program to another, but rather from an external program to an internal-only one, it is conceivable that the held/sustained notes of the Triton sound could "survive" the patch change (not seeing a "note off" until you subsequently release the notes), since that module would not have to first respond to a new program change command of its own. Someone should test this! ;-)
