NS3 Song Mode display question

Post by anotherscott »

When you bring up a saved Song on the NS3 (i.e. a set of 5 Programs assigned to the 5 buttons), is there a way to call up a screen that shows you the names of the Programs currently assigned to the 5 Program buttons?

Ideally, what I'd really like to see is for that to be the primary way Songs are presented. That is, In looking at a video online (there are no screen shots in the manual), it looks like the standard Song display is:

Line 1: the word "Song" followed by its bank and number (i.e. "Song 1:19")
Line 2: the name of the song (i.e. "Dont Stop Blvg")
Line 3: the bank and number location of the currently selected Program
Line 4: the name of the currently selected Program

but during performance, what I really need to know when I call up a Song is which sounds are under which button (and I'm certainly not going to memorize what's under the 5 buttons for each of 400 songs!)

So what I'd much prefer is a standard display of:

Line 1: song location AND name (i.e. "1:19 Lvg On Prayer") - or even just the name would be okay.
Line 2: the name of the Program associated with button #1 (i.e. "1. Talkbox Guitar")
Line 3: the name of the Program associated with button #2 (i.e. "2. Big Pad")
Line 4: the name of the Program associated with button #3 (i.e. "3. Bell Piano")
Line 5: the name of the Program associated with button #4 (i.e. "4. Strings")
Line 6: the name of the Program associated with button #5 (i.e. "5. Organ")

And yes, there is enough space for this many lines. When you're scrolling through Songs, there is a title line plus 5 lines of content beneath.

(Appending the bank and number locations to the Program names might be nice, but isn't really necessary.)

I like this idea !
Did you put a request to Clavia for this ?
If you did, pls. add it to the request tab of the Google Drive sheet.

Can imagine that a combination of buttons let's you switch between those modes (current and your proposal), just like with other selections with a 'list' mode.

For me as well, this would be highly desirable! I have spent a lot of time programming and using Song Mode on the Stage 3, but sadly I haven't came across a way of displaying the patches stored within the 5 buttons.
My alternative is to note the changes on the song chord charts on my ipad running Forscore. Not ideal.
Would love this as part of a possible update someday.

Exactly: "... during performance, what I really need to know when I call up a Song is which sounds are under which button ...

Really great suggestion! Please put a request to Clavia and add it to the request tab of the Google Drive sheet.
Hallo Nord ... ?

It would be great if you could also enter your feature request in the NS3 Bug Sheet (in the "Requests" Sheet, not the "Bugs" Sheet) with a note that you’ve contacted Nord support about it.

This is a great idea and I'm just seeing this thread after posting a similar query on the forum about the limitations of the Song mode display.

I think for now I'm going to keep rolling with just Program mode so I can have a more robust depiction of what's going on at any given time. I'll have to use the same approach I did with the NS2 for songs with more than one Program and just line those up in order so I can step from one to the next easily.
Nords: NE2, NS2 88, NS3 Compact x 2
Live rig: NS3, Vent, Radial KL-8, Shure PSM-900 IEM Rig, UE18 & UE7 IEMs.
Studio: Hammond A-101 & Leslie 122, Yamaha CP-80, Yamaha S90, NS2, DSI Prophet-6, Vent II, Roland JX-8P.

I'm sorry but no, this is not a great suggestion.

IT IS A SHAME they haven't implemented it this way

So I'm really glad you opened this thread. I were at Musikmesse 2017 when they introduced the NS 3 and I had a long conversation with the Clavia guys. And that's exactly what I told them. Of course we want to see which programs are assigned to the song part buttons! They did not understand me :| I tried to explain it but they didn't really get the point why it would be necessary and always said something like "you know the string sound comes first in your song and then in the chorus we need the organ and then the pan flute" if you have hundreds of songs. The only way I can explain that to myself is that I were talking with developers and not with musicians.

But they must have had testers that gave feedback to them... so I really can't understand why it is like it is

Does anyone here prefer it NOT to see which sound is behind which song part button?
