Key length in Stage 2 EX compact 73

Post by maestrosteve »

I was wondering if the smaller key size bothers anyone? Black keys are 3.25", White Keys are 5.25", both 3/4 inch shorter than real piano keys and still a little shorter than most synths.
Maybe you get used to it where it doesn't bother you, but for me, I played it and didn't like it at all, and I really wanted to like it enough to buy it.

Since I've only had access to my friend's Stage 2 EX Compact, how does the key size compare to the 2 other versions of the Stage 2 EX?
Can anyone tell me the length of the keys in the 76 note version?

I should probably expect the same size keybed in the comparable Stage 3 EX Compact.

The SW73 versions use a Fatar TP8O (O = Organ) which have the size of Hammond keyboards; HP76 version is a totally different keybed, it is a Fatar TP100 Hammer Action Portable and it is piano-size, same for the HA88 which uses a TP40 (heavier model, with different mechanics but same size of keys)

The Stage 2 EX keys are the same of the Electro 4D, right?

And same as 5D as well?

I'd as soon go bobbing for apples in my cat's litter box than play on mini keys.

OK, so the smaller size keys are only on the 73 note Stage. I'm not sure that anyone who owns one responded as to whether it bothers them. I have a number of Kurzweil keyboards. My Artis 7 has full size keys, and all my synths (K2000VP, K2VX, PC361) have slightly smaller length keys (like most other synths), but none as small as the 73 note Stage. The key length doesn't bother me on any of my synths, or the other synths I've been playing for 35 years as it seems that they have standard synth size keys, but the even shorter 73 note Stage keys immediately bothered me.

I'm thinking that it could probably have some negative influence on my piano playing if I played it all the time and got used to it.
That's what I'd like to find out about from other Stage 2 EX Compact 73 owners.

I have no issue with SW73 keybed, given I don't pretend it is neither a piano action nor a synth action, but an organ waterfall semi-weighted one (with aftertouch). I adapt to it for what it is and I use an additional 88 keys hammer action keyboard in my setup, when I need piano action but NS sound.

Does the Nord Stage 2/3 Compact has the same keys of the Electro 4D in terms of size?

For the semi-weighted versions, both have 73 keys (E4 also has a 61 note version and a hammer action 73 version). The E4D 73 keyboard range is F-F while the NS2 EX and NS3 Compact is E-E.
Nords: NE2, NS2 88, NS3 Compact x 2
Live rig: NS3, Vent, Radial KL-8, Shure PSM-900 IEM Rig, UE18 & UE7 IEMs.
Studio: Hammond A-101 & Leslie 122, Yamaha CP-80, Yamaha S90, NS2, DSI Prophet-6, Vent II, Roland JX-8P.

Man, the 4D has a version of 61 Keys.
My question is: Does the Stage 2/3 EX was the same key size (not key range), get it?
