Nice ! Though I think this would be easier with a Chapman stick.

Re: Another meaning for "left hand bass"
Okay, that's it...I'm selling my 5D and seeking this guy out so I can carry his gear for him. Left hand keyboard bass is tricky enough to get right...never mind what this guy is doing!!!!!!!

Re: Another meaning for "left hand bass"
Gee...... I should come around more often.....this thread took me by surprise!
First of all, I didn't invent this technique - I copied it. Back in the late 60's I played a lot of clubs dragging around my B-3/122's. For casuals I had a Wurlitzer 145B and Haynes Bass King amp. Trouble was it was mostly trios and I always used a horn or guitar for variety. The lack of bass drove me to try a Fender Rhodes bass keyboard, but it was muddy and heavy. I kept searching for a better solution, since there weren't any keyboards that split at that time, and the portable organs were too "cheesy".
At a welcome barbecue for Montclair State College in 1969 a trio led by a graduate assistant played, and he had one of the Baldwin grands on the patio, and a Harmony H22bass into an Ampeg B-15 amp. I was floored! The next day I was at Muscara Music in Belleville, NJ and bought my own H22 ( which is the bass used on "Gimme Some Lovin'" by Spencer Davis/ Steevie Winwood). I self taught myself the notes, but played the same lines I would use with pedals. It looks bizarre, but sounds like 2 actual players, and solved the casuals problem.
I still have the H22, but switched to a Fender Jazz for a few decades until I had rotator cuff surgery. I needed a lighter bass and found the Traveler Mark 1. I changed out the strings to flat wounds and EQ the treble down so it resembles a Hammond bass. I still use it and it still turns heads. Best of all it still keeps me working!
Thanks for noticing!
