Stage 2 EX sound manager load time?
Hey all, after 13 years of heavy use I finally upgraded my original nord electro 61 to a stage 2 EX 76HP. I love it, but the samples take foreeeeever to load from nord sound manager. I'm using a nearly brand new macbook pro and the USB cable it came with. Like nearly 10 minutes for XL pianos! Is that normal?

I find the best way to change sounds is with a 6 pack. Then it's a win-win. Nord gets new sounds, a good hang happens, and I get a solid buzz (depending on the beer).redisred wrote:Like nearly 10 minutes for XL pianos! Is that normal?

MIDI, having been designed in the early 80's is a whole 31,250 bits-per-second (baud) or 31Kb. So it takes a good long while to load something like the Wurlitzer 2 Amped or Nefertiti samples, both of which are over 20MB.

Re: Stage 2 EX sound manager load time?
You would think for downloading samples, the Nord USB interface could bypass midi and use more "USB like" speeds. Not for midi performance but for purpose of downloading samples and programs only.

I'm thinking it's the write speed of the internal flash memory that sets the limit. From seeing that "cleaning" is such a substantial part of the process.

No, samples load via USB in the NS2, not via MIDI.derrellpiper wrote:MIDI, having been designed in the early 80's is a whole 31,250 bits-per-second (baud) or 31Kb. So it takes a good long while to load something like the Wurlitzer 2 Amped or Nefertiti samples, both of which are over 20MB.

Okay, that makes sense too. Thanks for the correction.
