Nord Key Replacement DIY?

Hi guys - I have to replace 2 HA broken keys on my NS2 (thanks to my 6 year old son). Has anyone done this themselves? I've replaced keys on various keyboards before but never the Nord (testament to how well they hold up). I figure it's not hard - probably just pop the top cover off and should be good to go...but if anyone has done it or has any tips I'd gladly take them to avoid removing screws, etc. that I might not need to.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Pianopop9,

It's not rocket science, but not so simple either. The whole keybed assembly really needs to be removed entirely in order to have clearance to remove broken keys and install new ones. In Philly you may want to talk to Rusty at Musicians' Electronic Repair Services in Ardmore for pro help.

Is it clear that the keys themselves are broken? Damage visible or keys flopping around from damage which is not visible? There are pink pivot parts inside there to which the keys are attached. It is more common for these to fail than the keys themselves. If this is what is wrong on your end, you will DEFINITELY want pro help. Replacing broken pink pivots IS rocket science.

Bless,

Pablo

the keys are visible cracked - actually just the ends. the parts that make contact are still in tact.

I know it's been almost 6 years, but I was wondering if you did replace the damaged keys yourself. Amazingly, someone knocked over a PA speaker that was on a speaker stand and the speaker fell onto my Electro 6D. A black key is damaged and needs to be replaced. I was extremely lucky that there were no dents or any other damage. I have taken apart and been inside all my Kurzweil keyboards and am pretty comfortable taking a chance on doing any internal repairs to the keybed. Since I saw your thread, I was hoping you'd respond with a followup.

Replacing a single key on nord piano 2 (step by step)

Hello. I, today, managed to replace a broken key on my nord piano 2. It was honestly quite simple, and with the right mindset i think everyone could do it. I got the spare part (for free as well) just by asking politely at the official costumer support.
Here are the steps to replacing a broken key:
1. go to this forum page and complete steps 1 through 13: viewtopic.php?t=9756. It will show you how to take out the keybed, which is required for changing an individual key. NOTE: you will need to position the keybed right side up and not upside down, as he does it in the forum in step 13.
2. After you have the keybed seperated you should watch this video which shows you have to replace an individual key on a nord stage keyboard (watch from 8:00): . NOTE: this video shows the replacement for a nord stage, but the procedure for changing the individual key, is exactly the same for the nord piano 2.
3. After replacing your key, just put everything back together in reverse order and it should be good to go!
The entire process takes 1-2 hours and i personally thought it was quite fun. Make sure to be carefull with the electronics and only use gentle plastic tools. for removing cables - you dont want to mess something up in there.

Generally if you patiently read the guide in step 1, and don't use excess force, you should be able to do this yourself.
I hope someone finds this helpful!
