What is missing in Rhodes sampling of the Nord?

I"m trying to recreate the rhodes sound at the beginning of this version of Zero's 7 Destiny, but couldn't find any EP that sounds similar .

The main thing going on there is phaser effects, so most any of the Nord Rhodes with phaser added and probably some EQ will get you close.

I needed to bump this thread to mention what happened last night. The MKII closed EP3 has always been interesting to me, especially with the new enhancements and more noticeable key release sound, but haven't been able to use it properly. Until last night when I plugged into some boutique solid state gtr amp at a friends rehearsal space and holy s*** it sounded like the old MKII i used to play years ago...plenty of bark and perfect tone. So...yeah. What's missing in the Rhodes sampling of the Nord is maybe what you're playing it through.

Besides my Nord keyboards i have a real Wurlitzer 200a piano. It also only sounds good on a guitar amp.

Besides my Nord keyboards i have a real Wurlitzer 200a piano. It also only sounds good on a guitar amp.

My 200A sounds GREAT via the built-in speakers. I've also had it fitted with a Palmer transformer for symmetric XLR output, which gets used a lot in the studio.

I say no. A well maintained Rhodes sounds great without any special amplifying. The same with samples: A good sample must sound good for itself without any ampsims or effects.

A good Rhodes doesn’t sound *at all* without amplifying. A suitcase Rhodes has its own amp - many of which sound quite different, and the stage was usually played through a Fender twin or similar.

No, with a well maintained Rhodes you can go directly into DI.
