Hello,

is it possible to connect NS2 and iOS device (in my case iPhone) with an USB cable and use it for changing programs and banks with TouchOSC app?
I know this sounds pretty stupid to most of you guys here, but I'm a bit of a beginner in all this complicated MIDI world. NS2 can send and recieve MIDI via USB, right?
And how useful is this solution (if it's possible of course)?
Thanks

Cheers

Thanks to all of the input. After playing around I have come up with a "Newbies Guide to using the iPad with Set LIst Maker" as follows:

On the NS2:
Shift 3 (MIDI)
Set MIDI Global Channel = 1
MIDI Ctrl Change = Snd&Rcv
MIDI Prog Change = Snd&Rcv

Connect Camera Connection Kit and USB cable to iPad and NS2

On the iPad
Open Set List Maker
Under Database Settings – add a MIDI Device
Name=NS2 Channel =1 Active=On
Under General Settings - turn on Send MIDI program changes
Edit a song, scroll down to MIDI
and either
  1. enter the MIDI numbers correctly (leave the MSB blank - LSB = 0,1,2 or 3 corresponding to Banks A,B,C or D - and Program to (Nord Program Page -1) * 5 + (Nord Program Nbr -1)
  2. or use the Excel file
    NS2toSetListMaker.xlsx
    Convert NS2 progs to iPad
    (9.17 KiB) Downloaded 308 times
  3. or Press MIDI Learn
Select Bank, Page & Program and then Save
[hr]
If you have previously setup your patches like I had in the User category and have been using the sort category option on the NS2, you can use the Rotary Dial to select the proper patch when doing the MIDI learn, but be aware ** If your NS2 is on a patch that is in the same bank as the next patch you get when turning the dial – the MIDI Learn will only receive the program number and the LSB value will be BLANK!
So you have to either enter the LSB value correctly or simply choose a different bank on the NS2 and then press the correct bank, and this will fill in the LSB value correctly.[hr]
I also used another iPad app – GuitarTapp to find chord and lyric charts for my songs and emailed them to my computer. Opened the attached txt file in MS Word, changed the margins to 0, changed the text to a different font (SD Viewer), 14 pt , changed page color to black (which automatically changes the text to white on black) and then saved the file as a pdf.
Attached the pdf file to iTunes and imported them into Set List Maker
If the attached documents are being used for lyrics, don't forget to enter a song duration and turn on the auto scroll. To easily get the song duration, start all of this by creating a playlist in iTunes, add all of the songs you play, sync to the iPad and then add songs from a playlist.[hr]
Any suggestions to improve this simple guide please let me know

I'm also interested in this NS2-Setlistmaker-CCK-Solution, but got another question:
Is it possible to use Setlistmaker with the CCK over USB, while at the same time using the extern section to control a rack synthesizer via "normal" Midi? Or do I have to decide whether to use Midi over USB or the standard connector?
Thanks for the help.

Yes, that is possible. The Extern sections only send MIDI data and are in no way connected to the receiving of MIDI data, so it should be completely separate from any settings you make for that iPad app.

The NS2 is flexible enough for stuff like that.

I think you (well, the NS2) need to receive program changes via the Global MIDI channel, so you'd have to set that to USB 1 (or something like that). However, you'd still have the option of setting up a section to receive MIDI on a regular MIDI channel (or an USB one, different from the one used for the Global channel). That way you could send MIDI to a section via the Global channel (splits and whether a section is enabled is taken into account), as well as being able to send MIDI directly to that section (splits and whether a section is enabled is not taken into account since you're sending it to the MIDI channel configured for that specific section. And as noted above, you can also use the two Extern sections.

Very nice Excel Worksheet, dcraftfrombr!

I have extended it a little and tried to put all the information just like a printable card, so it's easier to take it on the fly. So if you wish to print the full NS2 Programs --> Set List Maker Program Change conversion values, you can try this one.

Cheers! =)
