NS2EX and NE3 perfect midi setup?

Is it possible that the tip with shift KBD select button is only working with NS2EX? I tried it on my NS2 with no result.

Yes it should work fine. One thing to try: the section needs to be turned on BEFORE you do this, you cannot set it if the section is off. ie you cannot go directly from Off to Keyboard Disabled.

Now, this is strange: I just got it to work with a PIano / Organ Split on Slot A, but it worked only with the section being OFF when I hit SHIFT+KB ZONE SELECT. It did not work, when the section was ON (as you described it).

But now, I cannot replicate it; it simply does not work this time, not with section turned ON nor OFF before hitting SHIFT+KB ZONE SELECT. There must be some other precondition given, but I cannot figure out what that might be by now.

I started with an empty program, then using Piano Init, then activating KB ZONES 2.

EDIT1: Now it works again, but only on SLOT B, not on SLOT A, and only from Section OFF state...

EDIT 2: Now it does not work anymore, on neither SLOT

I'm not quite sure why you're having a problem, it works fine. Check the manual Page 20/Chapter 5/Common Features/Keyboard Zone Select Buttons/Creating a Split (last paragraph bottom right of page).

To recap:

[Note: first you have to set the section to receive on its own MIDI channel for this function to work]

1. Turn the section on.

2. Press either the KBD ZONES 2 or 3 buttons to create a split.

3. Press and hold Shift, tap Zone Select button until it cycles to all LEDs off.

That's all there is to it, I don't know what else to suggest.

[Note that if you have set this, the On/Off switch now toggles between Off and Keyboard Disabled rather than Off/Enabled ie if you switch the section Off, it doesn't reset anything, it remembers the Keyboard Disabled setting you previously made].

I did exactly as you described it. This simply does not work (anymore???). NS2EX with firmware OS 2.10 here.

With 2 KB ZONES enabled, the LED state just toggles forever between LO > UP+HI > ALL > LO > UP+HI > ALL etc.
May there be a special MIDI configuration or some other setting to make this work?

I don't know what else to suggest, I guess it's time to ask Pablo. I checked the 2EX V2.x manual and it's still there. They wouldn't have changed it anyway, it's an integral part of the Stage's working. The fact that you were able to get it working sometimes indicates that it's possible. The "All LEDS OFF" option should follow the "All ON" option. I'm puzzled by your statement that you could set it with the section turned off, that's not possible - as soon as you press the SHIFT + Zone Select button, it would turn the section on anyway, regardless of zone status. Is it possible you're getting confused between "section off" and "all zones off"?

Unfortunately, although I know you're an experienced player so I'm probably going to end up insulting you, but I still think it's a case of pilot error - I think you've been pushing too many buttons and lost what's going on. I would take a break, and try again Start with another unused Program - the Init function doesn't seem to reset the Zone setting, although it does reset the basic split to Off.

Edit: Actually, I notice that I did omit a step, you have to set the split as step two, ie after turning the section on, but before setting the keyboard zone. I've now edited the original post to fix this.

I obviously had the wrong manual at hand before. The V2.x manual of the NS2EX clearly states regarding Split:

No indicator lit - the instrument will not be controlled at all from the
internal keyboard, but it can be controlled with incoming MIDI. This
alternative is only available when an instrument has been assigned
an individual MIDI channel. The panel controls are however active,
you can still change the instrument’s parameters on the Stage 2 EX’s
panel

-> MIDI menu > assigned a dedicated Midi Channel to each Instrument (Slot A & B)
