Keyboard Split
I want to split my NS2 88 keyboard into 2 zones. The upper 2/3 with a piano sound and the lower 1/3 with a synth sound. How do I do that?
Can I assign a zone anywhere I want? Say if I want to have a zone from note D4 to D6, is that possible?

Re: Keyboard Split
You can only split between pairs of adjacent white keys. That is, each split point must be either between a B and a C or between an E and an F.
There are ten total split points to choose from. They are indicated by the LEDs right above the keys, which will light up when you press the appropriate Split function buttons. Use the KB ZONES buttons to enable the splits, and then the same buttons with the SHIFT button to determine where they will be. Use the KB ZONE SELECT buttons under each section's LEVEL control (with the SHIFT button) to determine what portion of the keyboard that sound will play in.

Re: Keyboard Split
Thanks for the info.
Will I be able to split keyboard into 3 zones with 3 different sounds (1 piano sound and 2 synth sounds)?
Thanks!

Re: Keyboard Split
Hi Kenny C,
indeed no problem with three zones. Just activate both Panels simulatneously (by pressing both Panel/Slot Buttons together, then select the three zones button and by
"double clicking" the instrument ON/OFF switches several times you can assign them to the different zones. It should be fairly clear also from the Manual.
Good luck!
Cheers

Re: Keyboard Split
To expand on what Johannes said, Kenny...
What he called a "Panel" is actually called a "Slot" on this model (it was called a Panel in the previous model).
You can split the keyboard into three zones even on a single slot, using the same method I described for splitting the keyboard into two zones. The issue is that the three zones consists of no more than one organ sound, one piano sound, and one synth sound (and, if you have one, one sound from an external module). But you want two synth sounds. That's why he is correct that you have to enable the second slot.
Each of the two slots can be split into up to three zones. So between the two slots, you can have simultaneous access to up to two of the Nord's piano sounds, two organ sounds, and two synth sounds. The only restriction is that the two organ sounds have to be the same "model" of organ... i.e. you can't mix Hammond and Vox, for example (though you can select two different Hammond sounds or two different Vox sounds).
Johannes is right, the manual walks you through this pretty well, you should try the examples there.

Re: Keyboard Split
Yeah, The manual is indeed good for the basic's of using your stage.
I also went trough the manual, and now i know most stuff, and also thanx to this Forum (and their users!)
I wish it was possible to use more then 2 samples in 1 program tough.
But mostly you can do all what you want with the Stage.
I didn't regret 1 second buying the Stage 2

Re: Keyboard Split
Actually, with some effort, you could even do that. Technically, you can only use 1 sample per slot, and 2 slots per program. However, if you wanted to, you could create a new single sample that included the sounds from two (or more) different samples. It would only "count" as 1 sample, but it could have its own internal split that puts different sounds on different notes. Basically, it's a matter of using your computer to create custom samples (played out of the Nord, or they could also be from other sources), and assigning them to keys, using the Nord Sample Editor.Freak out wrote:I wish it was possible to use more then 2 samples in 1 program tough.

Re: Keyboard Split
Would you be able to put individual effects for each sample using the Sample Editor? For example if you would have a pad sound in the low octaves and maybe a lead synth with a delay effect in the upper octaves?anotherscott wrote:Actually, with some effort, you could even do that. Re: Keyboard Split
You could only do something like that to the extent that you sampled ("recorded") the sound with the desired effect in the first place... which is rarely going to be what you want to do. All the real-time front panel effects and other controls (volume, etc.) would affect everything in the sample equally. That's because even though you're assigning different sounds to different keys, the Nord would see the entire set of assignments as a single sample (which is why this approach can work at all).babbidibop wrote:Would you be able to put individual effects for each sample using the Sample Editor? Yeah, I was afraid of that.. I have a Nord Stage classic and a Korg M3 which I usually use for this kind of tasks, but was wandering, if I would get a NS2, that I could at least in some cases just use the NS2 and keep the m3 back home.
Sounds like that's possible now with the NS2 (the classic isn't really cutting it during Cover band gigs)
cheers
