Re: Help with custom electro 3
A friend of mine, Dave Edwards (he plays in a ska band called Big 10) has an Electro 2 which he customised with reverse keys. Try contacting him on FaceBook - say that Simon Beck from The Skanx sent you. The keys were purchased from Doepfer, and were quite reasonably priced (they sold them by the octave). It looks as if they no longer stock them, but try contacting them anyway. Don't know what he did about the top key - maybe they sold that separately.

Not the initial project of CutMyEarOff, just for the beauty of it though, have a look to this wonderful white Nord Lead 2X...

Looks a little bit like an old Oberheim 4-voice, don't you think?stiiiiiiive wrote:Not the initial project of CutMyEarOff, just for the beauty of it though, have a look to this wonderful white Nord Lead 2X...

That is outstanding work and looks awesome!
And I bet it still doesn't weigh as much as the 4-voice!

Looks like it belongs in a clockwork orange milk bar. I love the aesthetic of this kind of stuff! Awesome.

Simon, thank you very much. From what I could tell your friend looks like he has a 73 note electro - is this accurate? I am changing out a 61 note TP/80 keyed so it appears they have it on their website - fingers are crossed. So far the price is about $350 US for the keyboard, just waiting on tax, shipping and installation.
I just spoke with the people that painted the black Stage for the Madonna tour. Just inquiring, they told me to do my Nord Electro 3 61 key they would charge a whopping $1500 US to paint it black. They said the expense would be repainting the text under the knobs.
I'll keep my board red but I hope to get those keys inverted.
On another note, I spent about 2 hours today playing and manipulating the organ on my Nord Stage 2 88. All I can say is a jaw dropping wow. This is such an amazing keyboard. It is like the macs of the digital keyboard world.

Re: Help with custom electro 3
Yes, it's a 73. I used it a a gig once - my Casio WK-3000 had just sustained a broken key (Middle C, natch) and both our bands were playing a Ska night at a North London pub. Dave very kindly let me use his Electro (he didn't even know it had a Wurly sound because he only uses acoustic piano and organ sounds), and that's when I decided I had to get a Nord.cutmyearoff wrote:Simon, thank you very much. I had previously been using a real Wurly 200, with my Casio for organ sounds plus a Stylophone on top, but the band wasn't keen on gigging with the Wurly - too noisy, heavy and delicate. They got me a Roland VK-7 organ, and the Casio replaced the Wurly for piano, but now my stage rig is the Electro 3 73 for Wurly sounds, the Roland for organ and the Stylophone. The Casio has been repaired and is now my family's home keyboard (although my 12-year-old son prefers playing the Nord!)

Re: Help with custom electro 3
I also wondered about this as owning a Vox Continental look-alike would look cool, its already red for crying out loud. One need only see an old Animals, Dave Clark Five or Doors video to serve up those goosebumps. I will say Ray Manzarek puts another keyboard inside a Vox Continental box...kind of tacky if not insulting. Is saw the singer of coldplay play one with reverse keys but the keyboard was midnight blue. Some other site the guy greyed out out the white keys and painted his Nord black.
