Enable Master Clock w/Local Off using NS3+Mainstage

Post by stringtapper »

I figured out how to get the front panel controls of my NS3 working while in Local Off mode by creating a Concert level mapping in MainStage 3 that passes the front control MIDI signals from the Nord into an External Channel Strip that then triggers the front panel’s destination parameters.

Everything works great with this setup except that I can’t enable the Master Clock sync on any syncable parameters because the Nord doesn’t seem to send a MIDI message when Shift+parameter dial combination is performed. And indeed there is no MIDI message for “Master Clock Enable” in Appendix II of the manual.

Is this just the way it is or there a way to get this to work?

It’s not a huge deal if so; it’s far less annoying to have to go back and forth between Local On and Off if it’s just this one thing. But it would be nice to have this available.

Thanks!

I created a Concert-level mapping with the below settings:

With this mapping and the Nord turned to Local Off you can turn the knobs on the Nord and they will work as if you were in Local On mode, but in reality the knobs are sending their MIDI CC messages to MainStage, which in turn is routing them back to the Nord. It's similar to the way you set up an External Instrument channel strip to receive MIDI note messages and re-route them back to the Nord (with Local Off selected, otherwise you will double trigger notes).

Can anyone comment on this or at least confirm that, yes, the Master Clock Assign function does not send a MIDI signal by design?
