Re: Are we really in control -dynamics nord stage 3
Due to the keys that react too easy, I was never able to play fast enough the third part of Moonlight sonata or a very fast boogie....For the rest, I'm good with my Stage 2....But I've been told that the MP11 Kawai is better for that then, it will be my next purchase....With the stage 3 compact on top....

It's funny mention that...So here it sits, and certainly looks pretty. However, maybe I'm not doing something right or haven't looked hard enough, but I can't seem to adjust the velocity curve to anything remotely resembling playableQuai34 wrote:Due to the keys that react too easy, I was never able to play fast enough the third part of Moonlight sonata or a very fast boogie....For the rest, I'm good with my Stage 2....But I've been told that the MP11 Kawai is better for that then, it will be my next purchase....With the stage 3 compact on top....
The action even at it's hardest setting both in the EXT menu on the Nord and on the piano panel have a huge dead zone and cannot play softly. I realize it doesn't have as many velocity layers as the Kawai's internal samples, but it's really hard to play anything soft. Is this what you guys were talking about in this thread, because if so I'm kind of bummed out that I can't use the Nord as a sound module the way I had hoped. Pinging Kawai James if he's listening!

Agree.....the velocity curve is disapointing...very hard to play something soft.
With the Nefertiti ,no kbd touch, all notes after C'4 (high ones) are very loud ...a big touching effort to get them soft !!

I saw the photos in the other post, super neat....Even when you play from your Kawai a sound in the Stage 3, you have the same lack of velocity? What about Kawai sounds on Kawai keybed? The velocity is what you were expecting?

Re: Are we really in control -dynamics nord stage 3
Playing on the Kawai with it's onboard sounds is very responsive and smooth. It would seem the Nord just doesn't have enough adjustability or low enough velocity curves to work with a controller, which is really concerning.Quai34 wrote:I saw the photos in the other post, super neat....Even when you play from your Kawai a sound in the Stage 3, you have the same lack of velocity? Re: Are we really in control -dynamics nord stage 3
The dynamics are there, but they are verydifficult to use due to the velocity curves included in the Nord. Changing the velocity curves on you're MP11 will help you finding the right dynamics.

Re: Are we really in control -dynamics nord stage 3
By the way, there is anothe long thread about that and how to adjust the velocity of the Stage 3 COMPACT to any other HA weighted controller....But online, on Pianomanchuck.com, he's playing a Stage 2 HA from the Kawai MP11....Does it means that the issue is just with the Stage 3 compact or all Stage 3? It seems to be the case on the Peter thread but it's not clear for me....Anyone has tired to control the Stage 3 HA from a Kawai MP11 to see if it woks perfectly?

Re: Are we really in control -dynamics nord stage 3
I think it might be just a Stage 3 problem, since my Electro 5D didn't seem to have this issue. In case you didn't read the other thread I started on this topic, I was able to compensate for most of this problem with the Kawai since it allows outputting different velocity curves, but as many users have pointed out, most controllers don't have this flexibility.Quai34 wrote:By the way, there is anothe long thread about that and how to adjust the velocity of the Stage 3 COMPACT to any other HA weighted controller....But online, on Pianomanchuck.com, he's playing a Stage 2 HA from the Kawai MP11....Does it means that the issue is just with the Stage 3 compact or all Stage 3? Re: Are we really in control -dynamics nord stage 3
Yes, I read your other thread and that's why I'm asking to make sure....If I couldn't use the nice Pianos in my Stage (Stage 2 currently and maybe Stage 3 in the future), there is no sense for me to update the 2 to 3....
