Hi, what do you mean? The sustain does not engage when you press the pedal? It is only a switch, so there is little that can go wrong (e.g. faulty cable, switch ir plug).

Mort, I use a Roland pedal too. The only anomaly I find is, I need to push the Roland pedal down much further than my Yamaha pedal before the sustain function engages. That could be that the switch in my Roland pedal is wearing out. I wish someone would make a decent universal pedal. I play a Nord and Tyros 5. I need two different pedals, depending on which keyboard I'm using that night. If I bring the wrong one  ...

I've thought about that. They're pricey at $139.00 Canadian - highway robbery if you ask me!!!!!! There must be a generic pedal from someone who is not nearly as greedy as Nord!!! Holy crap!! It's just a damn switch!! To be fair, I can get the same thing from Amazon.ca for $39.00.

The $139.00 price is from Long and McQuade (L&M) - unusual for them. Their prices are usually very good. The only thing I can think of is, Nord is gouging L&M, and in turn, L&M gouges us!!

@Mort77: Sounds like your pedal might be broken. I have probably 6 or 7 various sustain pedals (Nord, Roland, Yamaha, off-brand) and they all work well with the Nords -- and when a pedal stops being reliably, it's time to replace it.

The Nord triple pedal is indeed very expensive everywhere, but is unfortunately the only one enabling half-pedaling, sostenuto and soft. If you don't need those additional feature (I am not sure if the NE5 supports all of them), just try out another pedal similar to the one you have. The Roland pedals lasts the longest for me, and I like the rubber foot that you can twist out so that it stays put under your foot.

@Lee Batchelor: Most recent Nords accept both press-to-open and press-to-close types of pedals. Unless your Tyros pedal is of some special kind (half-pedaling in some other way than what Nord uses), you might be able to set up your Nord to accept the same pedal the Tyros uses? Also, some pedals have a switch that can change the type from open to closed or from half-pedaling to normal.

Hi baekgaard,

That price I quoted was for the single pedal! Way too much money. I have two Yamaha pedals: one with the Open and Closed selector, and the half-pedal type I used with my Motif. Neither work at all on the 5D. The only reference to Yamaha I see in the 5D menu is for their FC7 pedal, which works fine for volume. For now, the Roland pedal works. I just need to push it down further for it to engage the sustain. That may be by design. Thanks :).

So what's the problem? You can safely go with the FATAR pedal, it will work the same as the Nord pedal...because it IS the same pedal, just rebranded.

Wow -- I thought it would have been the triple pedal price :o

I'm wondering how come that the open-close Yamaha pedal doesn't work as a sustain pedal. In your System menu, item 4 "Sustain Pedal" you should be able to set it to either Auto, Open or Closed. If set to Auto, the board will see what is connected (if anything) upon boot or when you plug in the pedal, and decide that the current state is non-depressed, and should work in most case.

What is yours set to?

You don't accidentally push down the pedal when you boot the board?

The Roland pedal that (sort of works) is that a conventional on/off pedal also -- Roland make some that also support half pedalling, and they need to be switched to on/off mode to use them reliably with the Nord.

Baekgaard, I'll give that a try. I missed that pedal setting (I think). It makes perfect sense that if the Roland pedal is a simple "On/Off" and works, the Yamaha pedal should work too. It would be SO handy to just have one pedal in my road box.

The Tyros 5 is set up in my studio at the moment. I'll report back.
