stage 2 ex complementary synth samples?

Post by varignet »

Hi, I'm still new to the nord stage 2 ex synth engine,
could you please recommend nord synth samples which would complement nicely the synth engine and which would be hard to reproduce with the synth engine alone?

any help would be much welcome, I'm especially keen on seventies carlos style sounds
I'm looking at both library v1 and v2.

thanks

Carlos? Not Santana, surely? The Santana stuff is well covered with the basics already installed on the Stage 2.

Do you have an example of what you're looking for?

You've looked through the online libraries, I take it? There are hundreds of samples there.

not santana :) electronic music, wendy carlos, think clockwork orange.
I suppose my point is what samples would you recommend downloading which would be difficult to recreate by using the synth engine alone?

Samples from historical synths, particularly Moog and Prophet, which you can find in the Nord Sample Library, would be the ones to start from.

However most Wendy Carlos' sounds for that movie track were done with a modular Moog but they are relatively simple to recreate on any basic VA Synth, including the NS2'S or... you can sample them from the original record! ;)

thanks, that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for, glad to hear that the ns2 synth section is capable enough for my intent and purpose. I was limiting myself to the v2 library mainly because my samples short-selection has already exceeded the total samples space available already, do you think would it be worth to look at the synth v1 library as well?
I'm just after I suppose anything that can't quite be done with the ns2 synth engine alone, in order to complement what's there.

Most if not all v1 Synth Samples have been converted to v2, so you should be covered (but a double check does not hurt).

If you are short of space on Sample memory you may use the Nord Sound Manager to show Unused samples and remove the non-synth ones that you don't need. ;)

i know, I've been playing with the manager quite a lot this year.
the only thing is that the seem to be plenty more synth samples in the archive library than in the v2 library, just wondering.

You know what? My memory is playing tricks on me today... :wtf: you are absolutely right!
There are more in the v1 Archive (and organized by original Synth, much better); I even searched some sounds there not long time ago  ... go for that. (Moogs first, listen to the demos in each page)

hA OK, I figured that also...I was on the way to change all my samples from 1.0 to 2.0 and when I saw that there were way more synth samples and way better organized in the 1.0 library, I gave up...I did exactly the same way maxpiano described: I downloaded a lot of Prophet 5 and Moog sounds because at that time I didn't have any of that sound in my arsenal...But today, when I'm short of memory for the samples, I just see which one I haven't use and delete it...And I start with Prophet 5 samples because I have now an NL2X (Which includes recreation of factory bank from the Prophet 5) and a Prophet 08...But I still try to keep Moog sounds in my Stage 2...
