center point spacestation v.3
any ns2ers using the cp space station? I'm currently using one yama dxr10 powered speaker/monitor for piano, organ and synth sounds and does the job beautifully. we play loud rock at late night bars, like old school. not always my fav in venues, but I take what I can get.
I've been reading about the spacestation speaker and thinking of picking up a used one wonder if someone who is familiar is weekend at a discount from buying new, it's enticing.
with this, could someone offer their hands on insight or share your knowledge about any nuances from switching to using a spacestation speaker.
I hear it works well with Leslie organ sounds, and piano. I also, use many programs and samples including synth sounds. for example, horn hits for uptown funk are crisp and sharp through the dxr, I'm curious to hear them via spacestation.
band mates ask me to turn down on stage monitor, and I'm reading comments that this isn't the case with the spacestation.
so I'm not familiar with stereo set ups, I guess cpst is a two cord hook up, ch1&2. I don't have a mixer for keys (unless when going through mixing board PA), is a mixer a must have to adjust equalizer for various sounds.
I know this venture will be a learning curve for me, and realize I probably have to jump in water before trying to swim, just wanted to get more Nord insight on this if possible.
thanks. MEL

Re: center point spacestation v.3
Hello Mel,
I have owned the Spacestation just recently. After two days trying, not getting the sound I wanted, I sent it back. I now own two Yamaha DXR10's.
I was very curious about the Spacestation, especially after reading about it. Not having to lugg two speakers, and still have stereo. Well, my two cents; when it sounds to good to be true....
The Spacestation is a totally different kind of speaker. It coloured the sound (I tried a CD and I tried the Nord through it) and I kept tweaking to get a reasonable sound.
With every song/song I had to tweak, that's not what it's meant to do. The stereo sound, is no stereosound as you would hear when you are in front of two speakers. It's more a 3D sound.
I found the midfrequency quite honky, it gave an irritating sound to the Spacestation.
If you are curious give it a try, you need to hear it for yourself. But if you ask me, you are better off with the Yamaha DXR10.

I also own the SpaceStation v3, and I am not to convinced about it. - But there are tons of users that love it - So my advice - don't sell your DXR10 - but try them side by side. If SS3 is for you then you have an easy setup - no poles - one speaker, but as mentioned above - it's a totally different speaker.
And if you plan to play some CDs( MP3) after you have done your show, it will just sound strange through SS3 - the DXR10 are perfect for party (maybe with a sub)...

Re: center point spacestation v.3
it would be a fun speaker to try sometime and considering the info you provide- our fan base always captures some of our play on video and if the ss3 might come across mp3 a bit weird, this just isn't gonna do. also, I spend a great amount of time tweaking and perfecting sounds between gigs to adjust to venues, the ss3 would just be too frustrating to add at his time. and I like the power and strength of the dxr10 and was thinking of getting another and
-no direction- i don't have a sub (I think the dxr gives plenty of bass for our band), can U please describe how u run your two dxr10 set up? do U use a small portable mixer?

Re: center point spacestation v.3
If you like the DXR10, you will certainly enjoy two DXR10's.
I have the NS2EX, a Roland JV-synth, a Roland SP404sx sampler, plugged into a Behringer Xenyx802 mixer. From the mixer I send a stereo signal to one DXR. The second DXR is linked to the first DXR (as described in the manual).

Re: center point spacestation v.3
where do you set these up on stage? do you get less complaining from bandmates?

Re: center point spacestation v.3
Less complaining? They don't dare to complain to a woman
Do you mean complaining about volume?
Volume wise I have taken quite some time to level out the different programms, so there are no big differences between the programms.
I have them set up behind me on poles (during rehearsals en small gigs). I am in a band with a drummer, guitarist, bassplayer and two vocalists and they all do have a tendency to get loud when they get excited.
We try to watch our volumes all the time. When I have bigger gigs (or really small stages), I go through the PA and use in-ear monitoring.

Re: center point spacestation v.3
I tried the ssv3, and although it is very good for Hammond,
and rather good for piano, it's not that good for all other sounds.
I'm using a DXR10, which has a tremendous amount of power and clarity.

Re: center point spacestation v.3
I also purchased the Space Station and have gotten more compliments on my keyboard sounds then with any other amp. The audience actually hears it as well or even better then you will on stage. Placement is crucial, and I have found that up against a wall slightly tilted and askew to my ears is the best. I would recommend against pointing it directly at you. When playing with a band with a bass player, the lack of low end (below 100Hz) can actually be a positive thing. I use a NS2 and a Prophet 6 on gigs and find that the sound reproduction is really excellent in the low mid/mid/and high range. I am very happy with the overall sound and convenience of this amp.

Re: center point spacestation v.3
I have a Space Station and two RCF TTO8A's. For the type of gig you've described my favorite setup is the Space Station face down with a TT08A sideways on top (i.e., the monitor position). I place the SS face down to effectively eliminate the sound heard from it's front speaker and then run the SS sub out to the TT08A. In effect, the TT08A replaced the SS front speaker with higher quality audio. I like this combo better than using the pair of TT08A's. I get the clarity of the TT08A, which I find necessary to get good acoustic piano sound, and the 3D effect of the SS, which is great for organ, electric piano, and an evenness of volume throughout the venue including the stage. And this approach avoids the hassle of speaker placement for the two TT08A's. I posted more detail, including a photo, on the keyboard forum. From my experience you would be better off adding an SS to your DXR10 than buying a second DXR10. You may even be happy with the SS alone as many others are. My only discomfort was with the acoustic piano sounds. I should mention that I mainly use AP, EP, and organ so I can't say much from experience about horn, string, or synth sounds.
