Polyphonic aftertouch
Hello Everybody!!
I just bought the VAX MIDI keyboard controller (though it will ship until April), and one of its coolest features is polyphonic aftertouch. Do you guys know if Polyphonic aftertough is supported at all by any Nord Keyboard (specially the Nord Stage 2)?
Saludos,
Gustavo

Re: Polyphonic aftertouch
The aftertouch in the Stage 2 is monophonic.
I believe that no North model has the polyphonic aftertouch.

+1, you may use it with some selected Virtual Instruments, but I don't have one in mind right now ( Animoog for Ipad supports it if I remember well).AinTziLLo wrote:The aftertouch in the Stage 2 is monophonic.

Of course you may also find creative ways to use it, manipulating the PolyPressure MIDI message in the DAW or VI Host you use (not to mention more advanced stuff such as Max MSP )

Re: Polyphonic aftertouch
Mono aftertouch (or Channel aftertouch) affects all the notes playing equally - all the notes will get the same vibrato, or volume swell or whatever. Polyphonic aftertouch affects each note individually, so you could add vibrato, say, to just a single note in the chord. Mono aftertouch just requires a single pressure strip running the whole length of the keyboard, while poly aftertouch has a separate pressure sensor under each individual key, so it's more expensive to add.Quai34 wrote:What is the difference between polyphonic after touch and mono after touch?

Re: Polyphonic aftertouch
Great example of polyphonic aftertouch is the nice brass pads in Africa (Toto) - very expressive. If you listen carefully you can hear the individual notes popping in and out. May have been a CS-80 which had poly AT.

Re: Polyphonic aftertouch
It was actually done on a Yamaha GS1, their first ever FM polysynth. It did indeed have poly aftertouch, but it was built into a grand piano-type case, weighed a ton and cost a fortune. [Not to be confused with the famous GX1].dhbp-nord wrote:Great example of polyphonic aftertouch is the nice brass pads in Africa (Toto) - very expressive. I'd like to know how easy or hard is to build it and how much time will it take to have it ready to play.

Re: Polyphonic aftertouch
I bought the one in the link, a black 8 octave version. The website states that for an 8 octave version, aproximate time is 4 and a half hours and that the only thing that you need is a screwdriver (preferably electric). My biggest concern is that there is no way of knowing how good the keybed is. No one has ever tried it, it seems similar to the VAX 77, but to what I understood is that it is much improved and has cost in mind. I will gladly tell you how good it turns out when I get it. Hopefully it will make playing the Nord much more pleasant since my biggest gripe with my NS2SW is the keybed.orcoaffamato wrote:Which one did you buy?Gustavo wrote:Hello Everybody!!
