NS2-88 USB Connector broken - where to get replacement?
Hi guys,
my NS2-88 USB port has broken, I guess my little two-year-old stepped on the cable hanging down from the USB jack... The little black plastic part inside that holds the 4 pins has fallen off. My solderings skills are sufficient so I think I can fix this if I get the right replacement part.
This might be the part I need, it looks quite similar: https://syntaur.com/Items/3487.html
Is there any place in Europe or even here in Germany where I can order this to avoid shipping costs?
Best regards, Alex

It looks like it. Female type B, USB connector. They should be much cheaper than that in any electronics shop.
Try RS-components of farnell.

Re: NS2-88 USB Connector broken - where to get replacement?
Hi Alex,
Removing parts with multiple through hole pins (pins going through the printed circuit board) is a very difficult task without the proper equipment. If you lack experience removing multi-pin connectors, I strongly recommend against attempting this repair.
It also concerns me that the Syntaur site lists the part you cited under the Nord Lead rather than Nord Stage: It seems possible this is the wrong part. --I did an image search, and the Syntaur site shows that same image for three different makes and models of keyboard. I think the image might be unreliable as a reference.
If you decide to attempt the repair yourself, you might be able to get a part number off the USB connector on your Nord Stage. While unlikely, it would provide certainty about the replacement part. Alternatively, if you remove the part without destroying it, you can measure all the dimensions and compare them to possible replacement parts' engineering drawing to determine compatibility.
Let us know what you decide to do.

Thanks for mentioning these valid concerns! But don't worry too much about my case, I know about the dangers of destroying a circuit board from experiencepterm wrote:Hi Alex,

Hi guys,
I succeded in replacing the broken USB port doing it all by myself without damaging anything, I couldn't be happier
I took some picures, just in case anyone is interested in what's inside of his Nord Stage 2:
I'm sooooo happy about the "Connected to Nord Stage 2" message of Nord Sound Manager
Best regards,
Alex

Re: NS2-88 USB Connector broken - where to get replacement?
Great photos! Thanks for providing them and the update. Congratulations on the successful fix!
It looks like you needed to disassemble the damaged part to remove it. --Can you confirm?
If you managed to get it out in one piece I'd be interested in finding out how (as I usually find it easier to disassemble through-hole connectors when removing them).

Re: NS2-88 USB Connector broken - where to get replacement?
I did NOT disassemble it - mainly because I didn't see any simple way to accomplish this. Heating pin after pin (and again and again...), I carefully lifted the whole part little by little using as little force as possible. This took quite a whilepterm wrote:Great photos!
