[Fixed] Unable to Restore Backup with NSM 6.80

Post by cki69 »

Hello,
first - a merry Christmas - although this here was no present at all:
I tried to restore my backups today with Nord Sound Manager 6.80. All my backups that I did with this program cannot be restored!
My oldest backups that I did with Sound Manager 6.74 work...
After the verify of the Backup Archiv there is always an error with some temporary files, apparently belonging to the Setlist.
The Error Message reads:

can't open file C:\user\Carsten\AppData\Local\Temp\7F55.tmp\SetLIst\Set List 2\No replay.ne5t (error 0: Der Vorgang wurde erfoglreich beendet.)

That's it then, nothing else happens.

Do you have similar problems or do you know a solution? I'm pretty upset... Tried to use another User-Account to make shure there is no problem with my profile. Then even tried another Computer - Nothing helps.
My config is:
-Nord Electro 5 d 73. Software 1.28
-Windows 10 (latest Updates included)

Let me know if I'm not the only one .-)

Best wishes
Carsten.

First I would let Clavia know through their website, they are the ones who can help.
If you feel adventurous, here are some shots in the dark:
If I understand correct, some backups have a missing file? If so, you could unpack the problematic backup file (I seem to remember that they are just zip compressed). Then try adding the missing file from a newer backup and zip it up again.
Just in case, I would do the above in copies of the originals, just in case.

It seems you saved your backups in the temporary windows directory. (\local\Temp)
This is a directory which windows uses to save temporary files and the files in this directory will be deleted in certain cases.
You should not store any files in the temporary directory because of this.

Thank you for your quick answers!

I now sent a message to Clavia - and I looked into the archive. Thanks for the tip with the ZIP Tool.
I even tried to delete the Setlist files which are in the error message. This results only in the next Setlist-Entry being a problem then.
It seems to me as if the files are not decompressed correctly in the temp-folder. If I unzip them "by hand", they are all there...

Will try some experiments later...

Carsten

UPDATE

I looked at the Temp-Folder now that is created when trying to restore. All the files are there. I even tried to replace these files with the manually unzipped ones before continuing with the restore-process. Problem still there. The NSM is not able to open files in "Setlist 2".
I now tried to check whether this might be a problem of too many Setlist-Entries and deleted most of the files in folder "Setlist 2", then zipped this again and tried a restore.
THIS WORKS! :o
So there seems to be a problem if the setlists are too big. I stored lots of songs; of course I would like to have them backed up...
I now have to find a method to import these missing songs into my setlist manually, will try with dragging them into the Setlist area...
PRAY....

No, I didn't. The NSM decrompresses the files into the temp-folder... But I figured out that it might be a problem of my large Setlist... (see above UPDATE)

My second backup attempt failed again. It hangs on backing up Set list partition with error:"upload failed: CReq file read failed: File read error (8)".

I finally made it:

I de-zipped the complete backup. Then - as I wrote above - I deleted all files in "Setlist 2 - folder" except the first one.
Zipped this again and renamed it to Backup.ne5b
After that, a restore was possible.
Now, I was able to drag and drop the decompressed Setlist-Files into the NSM Setlist Window again. There I chose "organize" to avoid empty Setlist-Entries in between my Setlist. Finally it's now restored... Of course this seems to be a work-around only. There must be some problem in the program.
I send a mail to NORD-support and hope, they will find the bug.

Have a merry Christmas now - Now I can play below the tree

Carsten

(Eventually, this is no solution to the problem... I made a new backup and tried then to restore: Same problems again  )

Hi,
for all who have similar problems: I sent the problem to NORD and already got the answer that there is a bug in Soundmanager 6.80. They will look into this and hopefully fix it shortly.
Have a happy new year!
Carsten.
