Is this more of a case of misinterpretation?
What I'm reading from this is a concern that the NS2, in an attempt to retain authenticity, is using mono for some of its sounds. Personally, I think this is stoopid in the 21stC as stereo sounds much nicer than mono. So, if the Nord was designed fully in stereo (but with a mono option switch for those who wanted it) it would integrate perfectly with the Spacestation, whereas at the moment it possibly doesn't. And to me, having a sumptuous EP sound, treated to stereo chorus and/or leslie + stereo reverb, to be reduced back to mono because it is going through an amp simulator, is just plain daft. And this is all down to Clavia, not SS.
In summary, I prefer my chicken to be thick and fat and rich and glorious, but understand if people prefer them to be thin and weedy lol
I should add that I don't have a SS (yet) and haven't heard one first hand, so don't fully understand the audio issues involved with it, so apologies in advance if I have got something terribly wrong.

The amp sim comes before the stereo effects, so it does not reduce the chorus, leslie or reverb to mono at all. Nor the auto-panning or delay, for that matter. From the accounts I've read, these stereo effects will work fine with the SS and give the stereo effect that it's renowned for.

However, costaseglezos (I think) wanted to use the piano sounds with an amp sim and without additional effects. Being a mono amp sim, it will as he said reduce stereo samples to mono. A stereo piano sample played through the SS will give a different stereo effect from a mono or mono-ed piano sample treated with stereo effects processing. What that difference would actually sound like, I've no idea.

One other point: stereo samples are a function of the samples, not the keyboard. The fact that some piano samples are not currently stereo doesn't mean that that can't change at some point in the future.

Guitar amps are mono, that's just a fact of life. Stereo guitar amps are only stereo because they have a stereo chorus unit (and/or delay/reverb/whatever) built-in, and they will comprise of two mono power sections, and will also need dual speakers to realise the stereo effect.

Stereo samples can take twice as much space... I am happy that there are also some mono samples. In fact I thought that if Clavia could provide all their stereo samples also in a mono version, we would be able to fit more instruments in the same space. People who play in mono, would benefit greatly from this.

Is the Spacestation a good replacement for a KC-350?

I've been playing through a KC-350 for years and looking for something new. I play in bar bands, much of the time we're all going into amps with a small PA for vocals, when we play bigger stages or rooms with legit sound guys I'll go direct from the nord and pass through the KC-350.

Having owned a KC-350, I can safely say the SSv3 is a *huge* step up in multiple dimensions: sound quality, volume, stereo effect, room fill, listenability, portability, etc. The differences for organs, EPs and synth/samples are enormous, for APs a bit less. You will *love* the leslie effect on your Nord Electro 3 B3 voices. You will also become a fan of things like chorus, pan, etc. for your EPs.

To be fair, the KC-350 has more inputs and knobs which I never really used.

Having owned a KC-350, I can safely say A CARDBOARD BOX WITH A BROKEN BRICK IN IT would be a huge step up.

With apologies to cphollis.

I think RedLeo liked his KC-350 about as much as I liked mine.

Hey, I didn't know any better when I bought it 5 or 6 years ago.

Roland, Behringer and Peavy were the only options I knew about...

And yeah, the KC-350 sounds like s***, but it's solidly built and hasn't let me down in the years I've had it. Other than whenever sound comes out of it.
