Electro organ staccato contact sound ?

Post by Drewa »

Hi

I'm playing a fast, tapping, reggae bubble melody line on my electro 3 SW Hammond B3 and I keep hearing an unwanted crunch sound during it - it maybe the B3 'contact' emulation that occurs both when they key is struck and when it is released ? -
OR maybe it's because I'm playing fast and as I'm not depressing the keys all the way down, but rather tapping them, the keys are re-briefly triggering the organ sample as they bounce up ?

How can I fix this ? I'm in a recording studio right now and the engineer wants it gone (and so do I)

Thanks

Have you tried the different B3 modes under the "Sounds" menu, Item #9 "Tonewheel modes" or the "Keyclick level" (#11).

not sure if it applies to your scenario but there is a"key bounce" function under the "sound" menu..also you can turn the key click volume down to low also under the "sound" menu..just click and hold on the shift button then hit the "sound" menu button and twist the knob/rotary dial thing

I used to have an electro 4 but sold it as I like the digital drawbars and I don't remember the sound being an issue on that model.
Were there upgrades to the organ between 3 & 4 models ?

Yes, there were significant changes. NE3 has 2nd generation Nord tonewheel organ model; NE4 is 3rd generation.

BLess,

Damn. Oh well. Hopefully I can say sort something out with this sound glitch. I haven't had time yet.

Key Click Level in the Sound Menu"is what you want It's not actually a glitch, this happens on real Hammonds and many people actually desire it, so it is built in to digital Hammond simulators deliberately.

It's a sound glitch that Laurens Hammond worked thirty years to eliminate, and when he finally succeeded in the late 60s, it was by building Hammond organs that sucked and are among the least desirable models today.

The key click is an elemental part of the Hammond sound.

(Edit: that doesn't fix your problem, but it needed to be said.)
