Does B3 organ simulation differ in Electro 5D vs. Stage 2EX?
Hi everybody
I am planning to buy either the Electro 5D or the Stage 2 EX. I am mainly interested in the B3 simulation.
Does the quality of B3 simulation differ between both models? In the Stage 2 description of the Organ section it is mentioned that it features a B3-Tonewheel simulation whereas the Electro 5D description says "Nord C2D B3 Tone Wheel simulation".
Also, are the Leslie 122 simulations identical?
Thanks for you help

One difference is that NE5 has bass B3, NS2 does not. Dunno about the sim itself.

Electro 5 and Stage 2 EX organs are the same except as noted above with the bass manual on the NE5

Hi Pablo,
I'm confused... in this thread you confirm that the Stage 2 EX has the same organ engine as the Stage 2, whereas on the Nord website they make a big deal about the Electro 5 being updated to the C2D spec. So aren't the organ sims actually different between the Stage 2EX and Electro 5?

You are correct simonkeys, NS2 EX and "Classic" have the original C2 engine, NE5 has the C2D (as the NE4).simonkeys wrote:Hi Pablo,

Are you sure Pablo? This would be BIG news.pablomastodon wrote:Electro 5 and Stage 2 EX organs are the same except as noted above with the bass manual on the NE5
I also believed the EX organ was the same as the Stage2, I remember the outdated (relatively speaking) organ engine was one of the major criticism at the time of its release.

Re: Does B3 organ simulation differ in Electro 5D vs. Stage
Maybe Pablo meant that the only added feature is the bass + organ.
But there is the Pipe Organ also in the 5D.
I don't have the 5D or Stage2 (sigh!) but the organ engine is updated and (i think) better on 5D.

Re: Does B3 organ simulation differ in Electro 5D vs. Stage
This has been addressed elsewhere. Sorry if it sounds confusing, but this is because...it IS confusing. Here's the deal:
NS2 organ is NOT the same as Classic or EX. Classic/EX is 1st generation organ. NE3 came with 2nd generation. C2 and NS2 came with 3rd generation. Here comes the confusing part: when C2D was released, it came with 3rd generation, but with minor tweaks to key click. It also came with major changes to rotary speaker -- a pair of 122s. Personally, I consider the key click tweaks to be really trivial and think that only the hardest of the hard-core B3 players are capable of discerning any significant difference. Apart from those tweaks, the C2D organ engine is the same 3rd generation organ. The meaningful difference is not in the organ model itself, but in rotary speaker function. In order to be technically correct in explaining this, not only here in this forum but also in my work emails and in my phone conversations with people, I always mention these key click tweaks, and always add that they are really trivial. Not a big deal The big deal is the Leslies.
C2 and NS2 owners alike clamored for OS updates to port the C2D changes to those platforms. Nord very quickly accommodated the C2 people with a new OS release, but the because of the vastly more space-consuming features of the NS2, it was/is not possible to port those changes to the NS2. There isn't enough room on the NS2.
Now NS2EX comes with the same C2D engine, the tweaked 3rd generation, but with ONLY ONE, not both, of the 122 models. This tends to confirm that NS2 platform can't handle both due to insufficient space. The NE5 also comes with the same C2D engine, but with BOTH of the 122s.
I believe that I have stated this correctly and consistently each time I have stuck my nose into this subject. It is possible that because of the somewhat confusing nature of the evolution here, some misunderstanding(s) have occurred. It is also possible that I may have worded something inelegantly, or just plain wrong, somewhere along the line, but in this instance I don't think that I am guilty of this. Every time I discuss this I have tried extra hard to be accurate precisely because I know that this is a topic which can easily create some confusion. If I have screwed something up somewhere along the line, then I'm sorry for that, but the above is 100% accurate info AFAIK, and I have 100% faith in its accuracy.
BLess,
Pablo
added edit: the entirety of the above discussion relates ONLY to the Hammond B3 model, which is the primary focus of most people's attention in Nord's Organ Section. The NE5 adds the C2D pipe organ to the mix.

Re: Does B3 organ simulation differ in Electro 5D vs. Stage
The rotary effect on the 5d is different to the Stage 2s. Electro 4 and 5 use an updated rotary model which to my ear sounds leagues better than that of the Stage 2's. I know this opinion is shared by others, but then there are some who can't really tell a difference!
