Hi,

No reply in 48 x hours! So I think they have just BLANKED me now! Prats.

I wonder what would have happened if I had CLICKED on and BOUGHT the incorrectly listed NS2 on the DV247 checkout?

If your looking for a NS2,Try Andertons in Guildford, they have several B-stock reduced price models and they still have a stock of new 88s too.

I've always had great service from these guys, plus they are one of the few stores still taking part ex on your old gear.

I have only really ever used Absolute Music Solutions in Bournemouth before.

But if you do an EXCHANGE, then do you think I would have to drive down to Guildford (from Liverpool!)?

A slightly narrower SEARCH produced result:

Otherwise, there is PMT in Manchester, but I am not sure if they have/offer the possibilities you kindly mention.

Best,

Paul

From Anderton's FAQ:

Quote: "I live too far away from you to visit your Guildford store. Can I still trade in my old gear?

Yes, probably! Depending on what you are exchanging, and what you want to buy, there are a few different options. Give us a call and we will do what we can to make the part-ex as easy as possible!"

Thanks a lot RL,

I wonder what they would give me for a 2008 NSC 88 though? Might be better to whack it on eBay (have gone full circle now, lol!)?

A trade-in will likely be substantially less that a private sale - whatever figure they buy it from you at, they have to add their own markup. Unfortunately, I can't be any more specific than that. Just call them and see if you can get a ballpark figure out of them, and compare that to what you could reasonably expect to sell it for on ebay. Don't guess numbers in the dark, get the facts and be realistic in your own assessments. There's no right call here, it's all down to your needs and preferences, but I dare say seeing the numbers will pretty much make your decision for you one way or the other.

As RL has stated,I would opt for a private sale first as you'll probably get more,Try Sound on Sound or Gumtree first,as your going to get all the bucks from the Sale, whether ebay VS Trade in is better is up to what they will value it at,trade in will obviously come as the easier hassle free option as your gonna get a straight up figure rather than hope for the best bid on ebay unless you do buy it now,but you've got to balance the books on fees vs trade in.

Andertons give you 2/3rds of what they can sell it for,its listed on their FAQ list(dependant on condition/extras etc)I've never done a part ex sale with them as I have preferred to sell via other means first(not ebay though I avoid it like the plague)part ex option just takes out the hassle of waiting for someone to bite on your sale and tyre kickers wasting your time with no intention of buying,Andertons will collect the item and then give you a valuation once its been received(not sure if they charge you for courier service though)I think PMT used to do trade ins not sure if they still do it, I had a friend who traded in a synth with them giving him very little for it,filling him with some "Its not worth anything" jibber only to list it up at almost double what they offered it for,ok they have to offer warranties and stuff but he kind of felt like they were trying to buy in at as low as poss in order to make maximum profit, the Andertons trade in seems not be so much like that, its like they give you a no quibble valuation.

If Andertons trade/Part ex service is as good and easy as the normal service they provide then theres nothing to worry about,I've been using Andertons for the best part of a decade now, never been an issue whatsoever,I Live too far away to drive to the shop,so have always bought online, there stock system is live so is always correct unlike some shops that always show in stock and you ring them and they haven't got any,I Have nothing but praise for these guys.Plus they give you loyalty points on purchases which gives you money off any future purchases,on the few occasions I have bought over the phone, they can't do enough for you and are not like most retailers that kind of have the take your money quick/box shifter attitude.

Their secondhand section is pretty good too, this is what people have traded in as well as some ex stock/b stock,I've had a few bargains from it,I recently acquired a DSI Mopho keyboard absolutely mint condition(infact I would say as new) and boxed, for £329,which someone had traded in,this was cheaper than their current new mopho desktop, and half the price of a New MophoKeys,I always keep my eye on that section as you can get some Gems on it from time to time.

Thanks very much indeed Adam,

I appreciate that.

Well, it's Saturday now so there is bugger all I can do til next week.

I heard jack s*** back from DV247! Idiots!

I actually DID use ANDERTONS 4 x years ago when I bought a YAMAHA MG MIXER from their eBay store for a dodgey duo I was in (in Spain). There was a POWER ISSUE so I sent it back. They returned it and covered postage as well. So no problem with them at all. Very prompt and polite.

The NSC 88 was bought from PMT Manchester (well, it was SOUND CONTROL then) in 2008. My best mate bought it new there and then sold it to me (a year later) as he preferred an RD700 instead. So they may cut a deal.

I looked on GUMTREE thanks. Personally, I think the sellers are asking too much. But my other best mate (yes, I have TWO!), who let me try out his NS2 500MB last week actually sold his NSC 88 (same as mine) 2 x years ago on GUMTREE (and gave the guy a demo on SKYPE. He said you have to JOIN, but he could not remember paying any listing fees!?

Yes Adam, eBay can be a bind and a rip-off sometimes. And I think, to place it on with NO RESERVE starting £0.99p is a RISK. Though you can get lucky on there. It's just that I never see an NSC 88 for sale there so not sure if that is good or bad?!

Best,

Paul

Gumtree is free,(Unless you want to use there enhanced ad option, which bumps your ad at the top of the pile for seven days or so)I've never bothered with that, there are a lot of idiots/Timewasters on there so just be sensible,I've never had an issue when it comes to an actual sale, but I've always treated it with an air of caution and kind of kept my distance,if something doesn't feel right then go with your gut instinct with high value items,Musical Instruments(especially pro gear)seems to be less prone to people trying to rip you off as its not everyday items people are likely to move on so easily,I will always correspond with people interested via phone after a couple of email exchanges, you can kind of gauge then if they are genuine.

SOS is the more safe option,as its more or less a specialised system for other like minded musicians, rather than a free for all,I've bought and sold on their for years, met some great fellow musicians.

One tip though if your going to use Gumtree, its owned by Ebay,so if you join, don't use the same email address as the one your using with Ebay, they will pull your gumtree ads off,(another political Ebay tactic)its why I stopped using Ebay, they are just a law unto themselves, ebay maybe gets you a wider audience, but I decided to quit selling, after they started holding onto Paypal funds, they should be regulated like the banks, its disgusting how they can hold you to ransom like that especially since some sellers couldn't be bothered to leave any feedback which delayed my payment being transferred from Paypal,so enough was enough.

There are a lot of people overpricing things, however I've always seen that as an advantage,if you price your item more sensibly and more in the actual ballpark figure of typical units then there's more chance of it selling against chancers ramping the value up.

Thanks Adam,

That's very helpful made.

I had no idea at all the Gumtree and eBay were LINKED! Though it does not surprise me. eBay just have way too much power!

And I did not know about SOS having a CLASSIFIED list either.

I really think sellers are being very unrealistic asking for £2K for a second hand NS2 when you can buy a B STOCK model slightly cheaper, with free delivery and a warranty!

I will work out my plan of attack this week and also send out some emails to the music shops.

Best,

Paul
