Nord CD2 Pipe Organ Sound Question

Post by DrCobalt »

Hi All -

I have been tasked with finding a setting on a rented Nord CD2 organ to provide a sound that meets the description below:

"The organ needs to produce a pure 8-foot only pitch, and as an alternative, an 8-foot and 4-foot‎ combined pitch."

I am totally unfamiliar with the CD2 and moreover, I don't know how to translate the above description to make a setting on the Nord. I believe that this is most likely very simple, but I am not sure where to start.

Can anyone suggest setting on the CD2 that will honor the above instructions?

Thanks in advance for your help,

D

The 8 foot pitch is the native pitch of the organ, the 4 foot one is one octave higher then the 8' (8' and 4' refer to the lenght of the organ pipes).

8 foot stops are unison or standard pitched stops, they sound the actual note pitch.
On the C2D's Great manual they are Principal, Gamba, Gedackt and Trumpet, on the Swell one Fugara, Rohrflote and Oboe.

So you can use the Principal stop in combination with the Octava 4 on your Great manual.

The higher pitched ranks (like 4' and 2') supply different timbres that correspond to the natural overtons above the fundamental.

8' (8/1) = fundamental
4' (8/2) = 1 overtone - 1 octave higher
2' (8/4) = 3 overtone - 2 octaves higher

I suggest you to buy this little book:
