NS2 USB/program change
Hi all
I use an app on my iPad to display lead sheets that also outputs MIDI commands. I have been successfully using this to send program changes to my NS2 via the USB socket.
It has recently stopped working. I've bought a new camera kit adaptor for the iPad end, but still nothing.
I suspect it is the USB socket on the back of the NS2 which is at fault, but before I replace that, does anyone have any other theory? (I did do some settings changes a while back for use in a different rig, but I can't see anything that would stop PCs being received over USB.)

Re: NS2 USB/program change
Assuming you have already ensured that NS2 MIDI GlobalChannel matches the iPad's, I would check the MIDI Program Change Mode parameter in the MIDI menu

Re: NS2 USB/program change
Does the USB socket work when you connect to a PC and sync with Nords Sound Manager?
Alternatively, you could try to connect the iPad via Audio MidiInterface which you connect via Midi cables with your Nord Stage.

Re: NS2 USB/program change
Thanks for the ideas.
iPad sends on all channels and I've got my Program change settings to send and receive on NS2. (My NS2 also sends prog change commands to my Wave.)
I've got a USB/MIDI interface at home, but I'm away gigging at the moment... Just when it stops working! Even took a trip to the Apple Store to buy a new extortionately priced adaptor. The iRig might be a last resort.
I think I'll have to borrow someone's laptop and just see if the NS is picked up as a device- that'll be enough to tell me if it is appearing at the end of the cable.

Re: NS2 USB/program change
Does anybody know if I can run mainstage sounds to my Nord classic and also use the factory sounds of the Nord as well at the same time. I'm new to this whole Midi and USB hook up thing. I need some advice? I love the sounds of my Nord, but would also like to incorporate the pads and piano sounds I have running from Mainstage.. I.e. I want to use the organ sound from my Nord, but also use a pad and piano sound running from mainstage.

Re: NS2 USB/program change
It might be best to start a new thread... But to answer your question here: NS2 USB does not carry audio. You could take your NS2 audio and route it through Mainstage (using an audio interface on your Mac) which would be a powerful combination. Having said that, I wonder if the audio input on the NS2 passes audio through to the outs...? Never looked at that myself. Really though, you'll need an external mixer to receive audio from your Mac outs and your NS audio outs.

Re: NS2 USB/program change
Maybe(not off-topic), I run my NP2 into the 2 front inputs of my M-Audio 610 Pro, which combines in turn with the Firewire mix of VSTs from my Mac Mini - works great. (Using Reaper as a VST host/DAW)
The front 2 inputs on the 610 are of reasonably high quality so the sound of the NP2 does not seem compromised. So the FOH gets a stereo mix of NP2 and all my VSTs. I can even bring the NP2 into Reaper as an input but having some latency issues there.

Re: NS2 USB/program change
So back on topic: Finally got some time today to investigate and have verified my USB connection on the NS is fine (connects as expected to Sound Manager on my Mac) and I also verified the dock connection on my iPad. I'm using the same USB cable for all testing, so I know that's good. I've tried two camera kit adaptors (from the dock to USB socket) so could rule that out. I was able to control my iPad from my NS over specific USB channels, so definite communication going on there.
Anyway, a little head scratching an a trip through the MIDI menu later and I found my problem... I had switched the MIDI global channel to MIDI not USB! Thanks for trying to help everyone up there.
A definite D'oh moment, since my patch selector control has had more twists than ever over the last couple of weeks as I scroll from patch to patch.
I could have saved myself the ridiculous money that Apple charge for dock adaptors, but never mind. Never hurts to have a spare of these things.
