Hello basarrrr,
Welcome to the forum!
The factory preset file is in .smf format which is a midi sequencer file.
It requires a smf player like this one http://www.rolandus.com/support/downloa ... FPLAYR.ZIP
And some type of midi interface so your computer can send the midi to your nl2x.
Cheers, hanon

I just bought a 2nd hand NL2X tonight ... and of course I want to restore it to factory settings.
But the instruction above seems complicated - is there no other way?
I'm very old and used to Roland SH 101 & Juno 106.

NE3HP, NP88, NS2, DPP1, NL2X, NL2X, NLA1, NL4, NE5D, NW2 (Collect Them All?), some classic Rolands, Arturias, a Waldorf, a Kurz, a WONOK3, a pile of guitars, a P-bass, loopers, amps and computers ... I'm a gearslut!
I think there is only one way to do so. That being, I would say this:
- there are like 600 factory presets that cannot be changed
- this is a real knobby synth, in the tradition of SHs and Junos, and I'm sure one can live without having the whole 1000 factory presets restored
Otherwise, try to follow the instructions step by step. I'm sure you'll get it to work

If you use a Windows computer, there is a little tool, to down load at http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/02 ... erator.htm
It also shows the setting of the knobs, very handy to study the Program.
You can down load (Midi) it into the synths one by one and tweak it. If you like the Program, save it in the synth and into the computer.
The tool is freeware.
