slight correction here: if you follow the above procedure you will lose your edits. Pressing a Live button does not cause your edits to be stored to that Live location. Pressing a Live button causes the program to change from whatever was previously loaded to whatever has previously been stored to that Live button. If you want something stored to a Live location, it is necessary to perform a STORE operation.
Thus, if you've taken one of your normal sounds and tweaked it a bit and wish to store it to a Live location, press the red STORE button once, then the Live location button of your choosing, then the red STORE button a second time.
The characteristic which makes LIVE locations unique is that ALL edits are ALWAYS stored instantaneously without having to go through the formal motions of performing a STORE operation. There are both good and bad aspects to this behavior and when/whether you choose to use this feature will depend heavily upon what your needs are at any given moment. Generally speaking, I only use Live Mode when at home alone engaged in programming operations; I never actually use it while performing live. Here's why: let's suppose that I have a special program which I use to begin a particular song. During the course of performing the song, I am likely to change aspects of the sound, e.g. modify organ drawbars, change delay rate or feedback or amount, etc. If there's a solo in the tune, my keyboard settings might get a little wild and wooly along the way. At the end of the solo (or at the next gig), it is useful to be able to return to the initial settings quickly and easily. When not in Live Mode, this is easily accomplished by simply reloading the same program (hitting one button). When in Live Mode, that original program you started out with no longer exists and in order to find it back each individual parameter which may have been adjusted along the way needs to be precisely adjusted back to original values one by one. That's just not the way I want to work onstage...
There are meaningful uses for Live Mode, but to my way of thinking, they do not occur while actually performing live.
