That would be good if it's an Nord Stage 3. I am still on my 2007 'Classic' so would gladly upgrade (if it suits my need and I can justify the move price-wise [which I really could not do with the NS2]).
Having recently picked up a new stage2 for a steal, I expected a stage3 to be coming soon - even if this isn't it!
Still getting familiar with it, but I can see where there is room for improvement, especially in the synth section which could be so much more... (and the amount of sample memory)... However I'm happy with my purchase, as the new stage 3 will probably start retailing at the £3k mark, which is a lot more the I paid
I can also see those drawbars being multitasked as faders for other uses.
Waveform mixing, slot mix, effects etc.
It would fit nicely with the 9 slot idea that's been bandied about.
Heck lets dream a little and have it be an EG shaper.
Move the fader.
Set a time
Move the next fader.
Set a time. etc.
Set your 0 point above somewhere in the middle for negative values.
9 points on a curve. Watch it draw on that lovely screen. Sweet.
Scaling would be asking too much here. Right?
Since you can see what's happening on the screen
there is no menu diving which Nord try to avoid.
We could talk about an iPad interface but Nord would
have done that with the more complex Lead synths by now and
I don't think they want to drink the cool-aid on that yet.
Support would be extremely time consuming
Kind of like in my world of voice over IP.
We don't want to get involved in the desktop
integration side.
Its a bit like running with scissors to swim in glue.
Using the drawbars as a programmer would be kind of neat, but very confusing, and extremely dangerous in a live situation (which is what these machines are built for) — after all, the Stage is built for multiple slots. Having dedicated organ controllers potentially unexpectedly controlling the filter EG of the pad layer is a nightmare.
it would be cool if they do it with motorized faders or 2 subsets of drawbars. On the other hand Nord Electro 4d works perfectly well and it's much more convenient to tweak the organ sound on fly.
I'm hoping they think about some kind of librarian function to carry over or interpret settings from NS2 to the NS3 (if that's what it is). I get why that wasn't possible with the new architecture of the NS2 but when I changed my original NS to the NS2 I didn't have that many essential programs where I had set up layers and splits. My NS2 is pretty much full of specific set-ups I use for different function bands- it'll take days to re-program a new keyboard! (Good way to learn a new system though!)
I very much agree that a way to somehow transfer NS2 settings would be very valuable, spending several days in replicating sets of patches of different projects/bands can be tedious. Plus, it would mean you cannot first sell a NS2 to finance the purchase.
Anyhow, exciting news to see what they will come up with for NAMM. If it really is a NS3 with a lot of new features, need to start saving some cash (possibly a bit more than "some"). Still three weeks to go...
