Opening my Nord Electro
Hello everyone,
I was unlucky the other day when a note was both dead sometimes and other times really loud, like there was no weight anymore.
I was told I should open the keyboard and clean the rubber-hammer-thing, basically the note itself.
But I am a bit scared of opening the keyboard if I were to damage anything, and my question is: Is it hard to open the keyboard? And should I maybe get professional help instead?
What should I clean it with? Felt? Rubber pencil eraser?
Thanks

Re: Opening my Nord Electro
Hi collegue, I had the same problem but I managed to solve it successfully !
The contact strip under the keys is slightly contaminated, so you need to clean the carbon contacts, only the defective ones.
There is a YouTube demo, showing how to proceed. It is not difficult, but you need to work very careful and clean.
When unscrewing the Nord body and the key carrier, you will reach the contact strip boards (2 parts). Collect your screws in a small cup and disconnect the keyboard wiring carefully!
Remove the one with the contact problem, dismantle the silicon bubble strip, clean the contacts with alcohol and a cotton tip and put the bubble strip in the same position back again. I used the rear end of a 1.5 mm drill to gentle replace the silicon mounting pins. Reassemble your Nord with love and care and your problem is solved at no cost, it took me less than one hour.
Enjoy your Nord! Henk, Eindhoven, NL (HyraxeC)

Re: Opening my Nord Electro
I did it on my Electro 4D. It wasn't too hard. Just take your time. Pablo guided me through the process over the phone. He was excellent and made it pretty easy.

One more thing...
You can download this description, the NE2 is very similar:
Nord Stage EX SW73 Compact Velocity Repair
By Marc Siegel
www.marcsiegelphoto.com
September 2012
He uses compressed air for cleaning, I used a cotton tip with alcohol (spiritus), nothing else.
Success!

Hot damn! That sounds like a lot of work, I'm nervous that I will damage it somehow, but I'll try anyway, thanks!
