Nord Sound Manager for live use ?
Hi to all.
Does someone use sound manager as a live tool ?
By this i mean, mostly for changing/searching programs. I'm into project where i would need a lot of complex programs stored, and it's not very easy to scroll or search them on the instrument during live (lack of dial pad).
The sound manager has search option, so finding the desired program is five second job (just double click an program is selected).
How about a reliability (usb connection during a long gig period)?

I woulnd't trust sound manager because it could lock your Nord due to resync (you know, that tasks which takes aprox 15secs) if your USB connection drops, and this is not something you want to happen live.

Re: Nord Sound Manager for live use ?
I don't think there's any reason to mistrust NSM. The only times I've experienced "resync" is when USB is disconnected and reconnected. That doesn't happen in the middle of operations in my experience (except when my local power company decides to throw a hiccup into my power supply).
BUT, I think that trying to mess around with NSM onstage is just a little bit....how to say it? I sure wouldn't want to even try it. In my book, NSM should be tucked away and sleeping when it's live performance time.
Is yours an NS2? If so, you have a SORT MODE feature via which you can choose to sort programs by category (alpha sort is also available). By assigning all of your custom programming to your custom user category, you can weed out everything else from the 400 program locations available and turn the rotary dial to scroll through your custom programs only. Or flip to alpha sort and use the page cursors to move through the alphabet.
Also, NSM can be very useful for drag 'n dropping programs into a localized organization which can make life onstage friendlier. There are several strategies which can be used to simplify these kinds of things.

Pablo

Re: Nord Sound Manager for live use ?
I experienced the resync. NSM was running and the labtop went to sleep mode. I think I hit the mouse unintentionally, then my laptop awake in the middle of the performance...NS2 become dumb for short moment..
After that accident, I always make sure not running NSM before starting the gig.

Well, yes, if your computer goes into sleep mode, there will necessarily be a re-sync which occurs when it wakes up...

Regardless of how reliable the sound manager is, I do not think that I would add a further process in between and increase the chances that something else could go wrong.
What about ordering all your programmes first, then use the dial to move to the next one? That seems pretty reliable to me.

Re: Nord Sound Manager for live use ?
The problem is that we always play random songs, not setlist ordered
So when you have whole night wedding gig this is like 80 songs in total. Maybe i try with the ipad+ setlist maker and program change option.

I've been busy setting up setlistmaker with my Nord.Syyy83 wrote:The problem is that we always play random songs, not setlist ordered

It took some time to create a midi entry for every song, but it's definitely worth the effort! So what you can do is adding all your songs to a show.
When tapping a song in the list, setlistmaker will also send the program change to your Nord.
