For some reason, the Nord does not show up as a MIDI output destination, only as an input. Yes, I have selected USB MIDI on the Nord. I have played with Local Control On/Off and it didn't make any difference. The Nord does work in Reason, however. BTW running latest nord os 1.24 and latest OS Ableton Live 9 Suite.

Nevermind, figured it out... Had to scroll down the MIDI list in Ableton, but there was no scroll bar visible so I didn't think there were any more midi devices showing. Ableton problems .
