I only have access to the Nord Stage2 when I perform. In other words I don't own one that I can take home and practice on. From time to time I want to know if the Nord can make different sounds that I hear in songs and need the time to find and refine the sound I want (which I can't do while only having limited access).
Is there any type of on-line simulator/software that is set up such that I can search through sounds/patches that the Nord can produce (or even layer sounds together)?

Not as such. The best thing you can do is go to their website and listen to the various audio demos, which are pretty extensive, to get a good idea of what sounds you can get out of it. But you can't roll your own sounds. I don't see that happening as I imagine it would be technically very demanding for a website (imagine twenty people playing twenty software versions of a Stage online simultaneously!), and I also doubt there's much call for it. Besides which, what is there to stop people recording themselves and getting a "free" Nord? Nice idea, but don't hold your breath.

Re: Nord on-line Simulator
Ya, thx for the quick response. I thought about people going on line and trying to get so called "free" Nord sounds, but was thinking more along the line that this would drive more interest in people wanting to purchase the equipment because their familiarity would increase; besides, they don't necessarily have to give you a full keyboard of sounds, just one pitch or note. Also, I wouldn't even care if Nord wanted to charge some reasonable fee for access to their sounds. It still would be easier and way cheaper for me than coming up with >$4K for a keyboard. And if enough people became familiar with the Nord sounds and programming, it could help make their keyboards the ubiquitous standard in the industry - but...., what do I know. I'm obviously not the marketeer for the Co.
Thanks again for the response. I'll go back to trying to get whatever time I can on the keyboard and save my pennies for that one day...

Re: Nord on-line Simulator
You can also go through the hundreds of patches produced by nord users. You can look up a song title and a lot of times there will be sounds someone has programmed for that song. There are also a lot of custom samples from other instruments that users have posted. All of these are free for download for use in the NS2:
