Post by kram21 »

Thinking of getting the C2d vs hammond xk1-c
Any opinions
Also do you think piano and organ keyboards sound better through a 10 vs 12 speaker; ie Qsc

Depends What you need the instrument for. I have a C2 and an XK 1c. The C2 is a great 2 manual organ. I bought a XK for the portability, not necessarily because I did not like/use the capabilities of the C2. And there is a bit of a price difference. I use a DXR 10 which serves my monitoring needs just fine.

I cannot comment on the keyboards since I have not played both.

But on the speaker size, bigger just means louder, which does not improve the sound quality, it's just more volume.

Hmm.. I would add that wider cones allow more low end. Sometimes it helps.

Thank you for response
I
Primarily playing at home
Would like B3 capabilities that c2d provides
But xk1c is less$$$$ and still sounds very good
Favoring Qsc 10
How do you feel about nearfield powered monitors for keyboards
I play thru audio- technica M 50
Headphones and they are so good
Wish I could have speakers that sound like the headphones

The C2D is great for the extra sets of drawbars.
The XK1c's sound is slightly better (IMHO).
The QSC 10 is good, but I prefer the Yamaha DXR 10, and it's a lot less expensive.
Nearfield monitors are the best amplification for keyboards, especially if you are playing at home.
You will never get speakers that sound as good as headphones.

There you go, everything answered!

Micheal
Thank you; do you think that nearfield s such as yamaha HS8 would be the closest approximation to the headphones?

I'm not Michael, but thought I would chip in anyway. I'm sorry to tell you this, but you will never get a set of nearfield monitors (or a p/a system) that sounds anything like a decent set of headphones. They are built differently, and do different jobs. You won't even get a close approximation, no matter how much you spend.

I see you are using AT M50 headphones, which are good. I have a set of AT M40's myself, but you won't get any amplified system to sound like them.

The best thing to do, is to check out different sets of monitors AGAINST EACH OTHER, and choose the ones that sound best to YOU. There is nothing wrong with The HS 8, but look at as many different monitors as possible, then let your ears make the decision.

You were talking about QSC 10's earlier. There is a huge difference between them and HS 8's. If you want alternatives to the QSC10, look at EV ZLX 12, EV ELX 12, Yamaha DXR 10, and (just to go out on a limb a bit) Line 6 Stage Source L2T.

If you want alternatives to the HS 8, Adam, JBL, are the way to go, or if you want something less expensive, Tannoy and Rokit.

Maybe Michael will be on soon with some different ideas!

Thank you six string for your thoughtful response
My main issue is trying to get the acoustic pianos on my yamaha cp4 to sound fuller and richer
The pianos sound great in the headphones but thru my yamaha MS60S sound thin; strings; organs and electric pianos sound really good; the yamaha speakers are 8 woofers
