Does the NL A1 Complement the NL 4 ?

Post by Muziksculp »

Hi,

I have the NL4 (Rack) , and was wondering if the NL A1 will nicely complement the NL4 ? or ... would it be a waste of money to consider adding a NL A1 ?

Clavia says that the NL A1 is a completely different synth compared to the NL4, and is not a watered down NL4, or NL2X.

I'm also curious to know what are the types of sounds that the NL A1 is very good at producing compared to the NL4. i.e. which sounds can the NL A1 produce with less time spent programming compared to the NL4. i.e. Strings/Pads, Basses, Atmospheric Sounds, Plucky Sounds ... ?

Thanks,
Muziksculp

Hi,

Yes, I think the A1 is a good complement.
After playing the NL4 for more than a hour, my ears shouted for relaxation. The sound is really great and powerful, but after a while I heard this kind of "roughness" in every sound. It made my ears get a little tired.

For me, the sound of the A1 is completely different, a real sweetspot synth. Might be the closest approach to *analog sound* (whatever this means) I ever heard from an VA synth. Not to mention the multitimbral effect section, especially the ensemble effect which is unique and a true stringmachine replacement.
The dark side is that Clavia gave the A1 a very poor keybed without aftertouch. Very sad.
And no red wooden ends ;) .

Hi Bernard,

Thanks for your feedback.

I am waiting for the NL A1 (Rack) to be begin shipping. I love the NL4 (R) , and will most likely add the NL A1 (R).

Cheers,

Hi,

So, are there any NL4 owners who are considering, or thinking about adding the NL A1 to complement it ?

Not really, a small 3U case with some mutable instruments modules will be far more enjoyable for myself than the A1 ! In fact, i wonder if Clavia didn't take some ideas from the Braids module :?
